Reviewed September 21, 2024An intense 30-year-old Bas-Armagnac, bottled by Darroze It has an aromatic birth with notes of strawberry laces, black tea & Demerara sugar, a touch of Christmas spice & tomato stem; that led to a rich & complex life with notes of grape, prunes, Mince pies, rancio, licorice, clove & cinnamon, beeswax, chocolate truffle & desiccated coconut; that led to a long death of medium length with notes of waxy fruit, oak, tobacco & iris. A complex, Armagnac by Château de Léberon Distillery in Armagnac, France aged by the Solera method, indicating that the Spirit has parts far older than reflected on the label. It has a complex & aromatic birth with notes of rancio, cedar & stewed apricot; while an elegant life adds notes of fig, sultana, quince, apricot, herbs, warm oak & spice cake; that led to a long & complex death. The youngest distillate in the blend matured for 19 years before being blended & matured for an additional two years in 420-liter French oak barrels. It has an aromatic birth with notes of dried & fresh fruits, wildflowers & baking spices; while a rich & juicy life adds notes of grape juice, candied prunes, cinnamon sticks, vanilla & apple compote; that led to a delicate & refreshing death of medium length with hints of fresh prunes, caramel, brown sugar & oak. It is distilled in the ancient town of Lviv using Ukrainian grains grown in black earth, a soil that produces a high yield, & combined with pure water from natural springs in the Carpathian Mountains.
