TX Blended Whiskey
Blended American Whiskey — (bottled in) Texas, USA
Reviewed April 26, 2021 (edited May 22, 2021)Vanilla and Sweet This tastes like vanilla and that is it. I don't understand how they got it to taste this much of vanilla. Its almost unnatural how much this tastes like vanilla, it doesn't even really taste like whiskey. I don't like this, but it can have some utility if you want a vanilla only flavor.35.0 USD per Bottle -
Balcones Texas Single Malt
American Single Malt — Texas, USA
Reviewed April 26, 2021 (edited October 22, 2021)Woody and hot I get ethanol burn and deep wood flavors. If I can get past that, I get to malt flavor, then I get fruit (like berries) and finally something herbal like menthol. I don't like this that much. It is very unique, I've never had anything like this, might not have anything like it ever again. but I don't enjoy any of the uniqueness. With all this said, I had this as a barrel pick from total wine. Perhaps this particular barrel was wildly different than the rest of everything else.80.0 USD per Bottle -
Savory and Complex: This whiskey is inviting and has a lot going on. The most prominent tastes to me are dark fruit, wood and something savory. I also get vanilla, some sweetness, some spiciness, and maybe a touch of maltiness. Finally, at first the mouthfeel was a bit oily, but after a while I seemed to not notice. To me this whiskey has no off flavors, and was enjoyable all the way throughout55.0 USD per Bottle

Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 17, 2021 (edited May 14, 2021)Oily Full and Sweet: This Whiskey is full bodied, it is quite complex. However, I cannot and do not appreciate the complexities. When I drink this I taste a very oily spirit that has all the characteristics of the barrel it was aged in (woodiness, dry tannins, a bit of spice). I also get some sweetness from the corn. In my opinion, the combination of these flavors is off-putting and undesirable. To me this spirit does not live up to the hype, there is no reason for me to go out of my way to acquire this as I'm sure I can get this experience elsewhere (though I admit I haven't yet). Even if this spirit were highly available, it still would not be worth the price for me50.0 USD per Bottle -
Fruity, Toasty and Sweet: Fair warning, only get this if you want a flavored spirit. I wouldn't really be drinking neat pours of this out of a rocks glass. This smells and tastes like toasted coconut and chocolate. The spirit is surprisingly full for a flavored spirit, but you can tell its not completely rounded. If you want a coconut rum, then get this, its good. I won't be drinking neat pours of this, but this will mix easily and make simple cocktails for something easy. A time and a place for everything.22.0 USD per Bottle

Sweet and Harsh: I don't taste the pineapple, I do taste a harsh bite. This to me tastes like bacardi, just sweet liquor. I want to mix with it to see if it brings something out that bacardi doesn't, but honestly this was not worth the extra $ over bottom shelf. I was disappointed because I wanted to believe this was crafted to be transcendent, for me, I can't experience what everyone else is30.0 USD per Bottle

Fruity and Harsh: I have had a couple younger cognacs that taste like this one. it tastes exactly as a cognac should. I can taste the dark fruit upfront, but I get burning after that. The burning doesn't quite come entirely from barrel spice, its from the ethanol too. If you can afford it and still want Remy, try the 1738. otherwise I get a similar experience to the Claude Chatelier VSOP at half the price44.0 USD per Bottle

Ron Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva Rum
Aged Rum — Venezuela
Reviewed April 17, 2021 (edited June 1, 2021)Fruity, Rich and a bit Spicy This rum is delicious. It has complex flavors and a satisfying mouthfeel. It tastes fruity at first but evolves into baking spices (not barrel spices) after. This rum is quite affordable for how great it is. Amazing value. I'll be coming back to this one, and trying to mix with it too, its that unique.35.0 USD per Bottle -
Malty and Fruity Coming back to this after doing some more "research". When people say it tastes and smells like green apple, they mean green apple hard candy (think jolly rancher). However, the taste, for me is overpowered by phenols. Apparently this is normal for malted whiskey, and people refer to this as "musty". To me it tastes bad. If you're a beginner like me, you will probably taste a jolly rancher covered in sharpie marker. This still is not worth it to me. Way too pricey, and tastes very bad. However, if you want that jolly rancher taste, I don't know where you would get it besides this.53.0 USD per Bottle
