Cherries, caramel, and vanilla notes you would expect from a bourbon are amplified pleasently here by the double oak. The finish is smooth, balanced and not too spicy. I had this neat and really enjoyed it. However, adding ice to this whiskey really intensified the oak spice in a terribly overpowering way.

Dalwhinnie 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed May 17, 2017 (edited October 12, 2019)This golden nectar greets you with gentle smoke, honey, toasted malt, and soft oak. On the palate, an uncomplicated combination of vanilla, honey and hint of fresh apples that lend to a creamy mouthful. The medium length finish is smooth. So easy to drink, and unfortunately, so easy to take for granted how well-crafted this classic Highland Scotch really is. -
Kilchoman Sanaig (2016 Edition)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed May 16, 2017 (edited August 21, 2017)A surprisingly nice combination of light peat smoke and fresh berries on the nose, before the dried fruit (raisins, plums), honey and touch of citrus notes reach the palate. Smooth and medium-long finish. The best I've had from this distillery. -
Dailuaine 16 Year Flora & Fauna
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 16, 2017 (edited October 20, 2017)Fresh orange squeeze and hints of dried fruit on the nose. On the palate, the bright citrus note persists, but is counterbalanced with honey, toasted cereal and slight nutty note. The finish on this delicious julep is pleasently sweet but regretfully short. I managed to work around this problem by pouring myself an extra dram. -
Jura Diurachs' Own 16 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed May 16, 2017 (edited August 18, 2020)An interplay of seaweed, vanilla and honey from nose to finish, with a gentle peppery spice on the palate. The finish is highjacked by an unforgiving taste of sulfur. Disappointing. -
Highland Park Ice Edition
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed May 16, 2017 (edited August 2, 2017)Toasted cereal on the nose, and a fine balance of creamy vanilla, banana and cinnamon spice on the palate. Lingering woodsy finish, but overall, it is nothing extravagant. -
