Aberlour 16 Year Double Cask Matured
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 17, 2020 (edited May 19, 2021)Starts with a spicy raisin smell, taste is subtle smoke, oak, dried fruits, sherry. Then mellows into a smooth caramel, honey, oak. Long drawn out finish. Mmm... -
What the hell. Bought a bottle after tasting the one of the 10yrs and enjoying it. This one is gross. Straight alcohol and sugar smell. Mouth feel is thin. Taste is processed sugar, coconuts, all around cheap tasting. Then it lingers, so trn minutes later I still feel like I just took a shot of Bacardi. Very confused and sad.

Obviously everyone's tastings will be different because it's a single batch once a year. First thing you get is that sweet malt nose, caramel, little hot. Taste is creamy and oaky, spicy, and some dry fruity flavors from the cognac and sherry casks. Finish is long and keeps it's sweet and spicy feel. Pretty good.
