Nose - cinnamon, spicy oak, brown sugar, buttered corn, baking and rye spice, bubble gum, high ethanol burn. Taste - oak, cinnamon, corn, rye spice, honey, nutmeg, brown sugar, vanilla, moderate to high alcohol bite, finishing quick and thin with fading corn sweetness and rye spice. It hits some of the standard bourbon flavors, but could use more time in the barrel. It’s very thin and hot for the proof.

Kentucky Gentleman
Blended American Whiskey — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed August 23, 2020 (edited May 25, 2023)Nose - corn sweetness, vanilla, mild butterscotch, apple, light rye spice, mild to moderate ethanol burn. Taste - sweet caramel, bland corniness, apple, subtle cinnamon, finishing slightly sweet and sour with fading corn and nondescript sweetness. Not great. For bottom shelf bourbon, I prefer the Virginia Gentleman offering. -
Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 17, 2020 (edited December 2, 2020)Nose - butterscotch, vanilla, milk chocolate, nutty nougat, cherry cola, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, egg nog, sweet barrel notes, tobacco, light rye spice, banana, high ethanol burn. Taste - cherry cola, creamy vanilla, butterscotch, apple, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, milk chocolate, peanut toffee, banana, sweet oak, overripe banana, moderate to high alcohol bite, finishing long with lingering chocolate, caramel, banana, and sweet barrel flavors. This is one I’ve been wanting to try for a while, but finally got around to it. The hype is real. It’s extremely sweet, rich, and complex, without being overly spicy or cloying. Very good value for the money. -
Volans Blanco Tequila

Wow, this is excellent. More depth, balance, and complexity than any Blanco I’ve tried so far. It’s a juicy, mouth watering flavor explosion. -
El Tesoro Añejo Tequila

Reviewed August 12, 2020 (edited December 15, 2020)Nose - sweet cooked agave, butterscotch, vanilla, juicy tropical fruit, sweet cream, black pepper, lime, cinnamon, nutmeg, powdered sugar, moderate ethanol burn. Taste - sugary sweet cooked agave, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisin, sweet cream, vanilla, bamboo, sweet grass, vegetal earthiness, moderate alcohol bite, finishing moderately long with sweet, sour, peppery, and vegetal agave flavors. Overall, this is a very pleasant and sippable añejo. Interestingly, I find it a bit hotter than the Reposado, but I enjoy it slightly more as well. -

Taste - sweet cooked agave, lime, tropical fruit, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, vanilla bean, butterscotch, earthy grassiness, mineral notes, mild cocoa like char, mild alcohol bite, finishing quickly with fading pepper, citrus, chocolate, and agave flavors. Tres Agaves Tequila Blanco
Tequila Blanco — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed August 10, 2020 (edited November 27, 2021)Nose - mild cooked agave, mushroom like earthiness, oily cooked bell pepper, green onion, mild ethanol burn. Taste - sweet cooked agave, black pepper, nutmeg, earthy mushroom, stewed vegetables, mild alcohol bite, finishing quickly with fading sweet and stewed vegetal and fungal notes. Not a good sipper. Mixes fairly well, but not a well as some cheaper options like Olmeca Altos. The flavors are subtle and not well integrated. It’s definitely not terrible, but I won’t purchase again. -
Olmeca Altos Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed August 9, 2020 (edited January 15, 2021)Nose - sweet cooked agave, creamy earthiness, salted caramel, honey, vanilla, lime, apple juice, mushroom, nutmeg, allspice, light smoke, prickly grainy notes, mild ethanol burn. Taste - syrupy sweet agave, salted creamy caramel, vanilla bean, apple, lime, juicy tropical fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, mushroom like earthiness, black pepper, slight chalkiness, mild alcohol bite, finishing moderately long with lingering sweet agave, caramel, baking spice, and apple juice flavors. Surprisingly good for a budget tequila. I purchased this to use in Tommy Margaritas, but would certainly feel fine sipping it neat. I view the bright grain alcohol, syrupy sweetness, and mushroom notes as negatives, but they are subtle and do not detract much from the enjoyment. -

Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 7, 2020 (edited April 2, 2021)Nose - apple, cherry, maple syrup, clove, nutmeg, and other rye spices, cinnamon, barrel char, milk chocolate, powdered sugar, leather, caramel, dry vanilla, moderate ethanol burn. Taste - cinnamon, tart apple (but not quite Granny Smith), cherry, vanilla, sweet caramel, clove, nutmeg, allspice, honey cured ham, leather, powdered sugar, dry sweet and spicy oak, moderate alcohol bite, finishing quite quickly with sour apple, spicy oak, and tannic leather flavors. I was excited to be one of the first to purchase this expression, at least in Virginia. I like this slightly better than the standard Small Batch; the fruity, spicy, and savory flavors are more pronounced. However, there’s a sourness that pervades the palate, which I don’t particularly enjoy. Additionally, the mouthfeel is fairly thin, which leaves something to be desired. Overall, this is a welcome addition to the EC family. As this review was written based on the neck pour, I’ll revisit in a month or so after oxidations begins.
