Im on my Rum journey officially. Novice to rum Ive had Pussers Navy, Diplimatco as well as a host of shitty mixer rums. Its amazing the difference these quality sipping rums can make. Poured neat there is nose of eggnog, overcooked caramel, brown sugar with whisps of smoke and charred barrel. Palate comes on strong with thick luscious toffee and more brown sugar. Baking spices and light wood notes support. There is a buttery surround that's like a stick melted into the toffee/caramel. Yeah its sweet but blissfully indulgent. Finish is long fading oak soaked in butter and melted caramel with spice lingering. Absolutely wonderful rum. Smooth and flavorful with great richness and depth. Could be mixed Im sure by why would you when you have this level of quality and flavor. For whiskey and scotch drinkers to try as a sipper, cognac lovers as well. Im gonna look up the 15 yr to see if it can build on this fabulous rum....89/10028.0 USD per Bottle

This is not quite up to the 12 yr but still a good malt. Poured neat the nose is honey dipped fruit with a bit of malt and some light barrel. Little thin with twinge of ethanol. Palate has buttery malt and hawaiian punch. There is some bitter oak and cutting alcohol notes. This leads to slightly bitter finish of barrel woods alongside fading malt and fruity bubble gum. Pretty standard highland issue without any peat. Its good but not great. Flavors are not deep but its enough to move the needle. Overall I would go for the 12(the two years makes a difference) but if this crosses your path feel free to partake, you wont regret it....84/100

Highland Park Magnus
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed August 13, 2020 (edited April 2, 2021)I really like the 12 year and this has a lot in common. That said the 12 is far superior imo. Poured neat, nose is citrus and smoke with some decent tang to it. There is good malt and wood notes as well. Palate is more malt with light sherried smoke, barrel and mild spice. It does have the HP rubbery resin vibe with sweaty funk like the 12 but its restricted imo. I guess that makes sense as they dont want this to outshine the 12. Finish is good and long with the smoky citrus, malt, wood and char carrying on. Flavors are not very deep but are rich enough to keep interest. This is a good solid scotch but comes down to price when comparing to the 12 year. If its within $10 the 12 is the clear winner for me. If the gap widens this becomes much more intriguing.....86/10035.0 USD per Bottle -
Pusser's Rum Original Admiralty Blend (Blue Label)
Navy Rum — Multiple Countries
Reviewed August 12, 2020 (edited October 9, 2022)Positive reviews and wanting to expand liquor horizons prompted this purchase a while back. Poured neat, nose has......wow this is very different from any whiskey that's for sure. Im getting some unique notes. Burnt popcorn with butter on it, agave juice, blackstrap molasses, incense and the inside of one of those crank pencil sharpeners. Complex and morphing I quite like it. Deep dark color leads palate of smoky caramelized brown sugar, orange peel, semi sweet chocolate chips, vanilla extract and seasoned birchwood. Finish is drying wood, charred sugars, mild anise and fading butterscotch. Excellent balance of sweet and smoky char notes. This is fantastic liquor. I didn't realize rum could be so rich and robust with such diverse flavors but this delivers in spades. Im gonna have to explore rum now for sure. No doubt this would mix great too but its worth drinking straight. I don't have a lot of experience with rum but I know a quality spirit when I taste it......86/100.....Easy repurchase and amazing value at around $20-2522.0 USD per Bottle -
Ok so I have had my eye on this for quite a while. I read somewhere it has a high barley % in the mashbill and as a scotch lover thought this might be interesting. Came across an opened bottle from a coworker clearing out some shelf space. I always figured it would be subpar but what the hell free whiskey always tastes better. Poured neat the nose is dusty old books, light caramel and whispy smoke. Palate has watery sweetness and gentle smoke along with young wood. Like a year or two in barrel with thin weak flavor transitioning to a slightly sour oak finish with trailing grainy notes. It is not good bourbon however I dont completely hate it. I think the barley and young oak unite to make a different profile I can appreciate...a bit. Certainly not a recommended bourbon but if someone is offering a sample why not....64/100...barely acceptable. Dont buy it but drink it if offered still crushes putrid Canadian whisky28.0 USD per Bottle

Belle Meade Cask Strength Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Tennessee), USA
Reviewed August 3, 2020 (edited February 25, 2022)Have liked all the Belle Meades ive had with the Sherry cask being amazing. This is more of a straight shooter. Follows the standard release with a solid bump in intensity. This mgp juice is thoroughly enjoyable. Singed pie crust with melted buttery caramel dominate the nose and palate. Toasted oak , cinnamon and baking spice round it out with a strong dose of rye. Finish is long and rich with more spicy cinnamon, butter and dry oak. Its pretty direct bourbon and pretty damn delicious. Proof is easy to handle and the flavors are deep. Ok its not super complex and does not make you question the universe. It is AC/DC like with tremendous power and likeability despite being somewhat simplistic. Great example of quality sourced product. Its a wonderful pour and I recommend.....90/10056.0 USD per Bottle -
The 14yr was solid so gave this a go. Poured neat, noses uncooked pasta with some malt hints along with the fresh air after a heavy rain. Fruit is restrained imo save for some banana peel. Palate is tangy apple tinted rich malt with barrel and pepper spice. It tastes younger than 10 yrs with youthful sharpness. Perhaps some of the casks are a little tired. Hell I know I usually am. Despite this flavor is deep and I am enjoying. Finishes with lasting malty barrel and light tropical fruit. Fairly long without bitterness. Not a world beater but this one grows on you.....84/100 ...........wait a minute, give this bottle a bit of time and it comes in nicely. Approaches Deanston territory which for me is a big compliment. Has a nice thickness to it and just an overall goodness that elevates score to near A rating of 88...........see note..90/10045.0 USD per Bottle

Ezra Brooks 90 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 25, 2020 (edited August 3, 2022)On sale for $9.99 yes please! Need a lower cost daily to offset higher priced bottles. Had this years ago but didn't remember it at all. Most of the reviewers here approve so I figured I cant go wrong. Poured neat, actually has ok legs not too thin. Nose I get sweet tea with honey and a little cinnamon. Deeper in I get some butter and a light whiff of urethane. Standard mouthfeel leads to caramel and nutty note, strong oak, and peppery spice. Carries good heat throughout but not overdone. Finishes with drying oak and char along with light caramel, melted butter and a trace of cinnamon. Its spicy and a little dry...not my usual preference but I like it. Its quality made, has got some good pop to it, interesting flavor complexity and is an absolute steal. Should sell for double what it goes for. It surpasses Beam White and others for less money. Will certainly purchase again. 78/100..........All this flavor for 10 bucks is outrageous , get some!9.99 USD per Bottle -
Ok so this is what it says it is. Salted caramel flavored whiskey(not exactly). It adds some poundcake and light oak but really tastes more like a liquor....Take it for what its worth. Its SWEET but I like sweet so I actually somewhat enjoy this as a treat. Just dont go looking for notes or contemplation...this aint that. Sure its a bit artificial but so are candy bars. Thats what this is, an alcoholic candy bar

Very inexpensive as far as scotch goes. Neat, has thin legs, Noses ripe fruit in a humid basement with a dirt floor. I pick up kiwi for sure along with golden raisin and whispy smoke . Light mouthfeel with a splash of raisiny fruit, smooth malt and some tobacco/light peat notes. Has a bit of heat to it as well. Finish is light smokiness and malt trailing to slight dryness. I can taste sweet potato too. Savory though a tad thin. Overall I have enjoyed this bottle as a budget single malt but this is better suited for newcomers to scotch. Good value though24.0 USD per Bottle
