Glenlivet 15 Year French Oak Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 15, 2021 (edited November 15, 2021)Amazing flavour, sweet cinnamon on the nose, rich vanilla sweetness on the palate. Very easy and smooth to drink. Had this bottle with my groomsman on my wedding day! It was honestly a great bottle to have on that hot summer day. It wasn’t strong or harsh at all, it was sweet and light. Exceptional flavour. Easily a bottle I would continue to buy and have in my bar at home. -
I’m actually a fan of this blend of whisky and cold brew and had been wanting to try it for a while. Finally got the chance to in company. We all pretty much had the same reaction at first or the nose, palate was a bit different for everyone however. So the main thing obviously is the coffee, it’s definitely the main protagonist in the story of the blend. The scent on the nose is pretty strong and gives you that night time coffee feeling at first whiff, but on the palate, you mostly get the whisky and some vanilla with a hint of citrus, quite subtle. The coffee flavour comes back towards the end with a nice black coffee finish that lingers around the palate a little bit. If you’re a fan of black coffee you may be inclined to try this out. If not, it might not be your blend of choice, but worth a try nonetheless.

Never heard of The Dead Rabbit Irish whiskey but I was intrigued and decided to dive in. I must say that the flavours aren’t what I was expecting. At first sip, I noticed it was sweet at spicy, blended very well and it was clear that those flavours were coming from the whiskey being aged for 5 years in bourbon barrels. I definitely get the oak wood finish, that coming from the Virgin American Oak that it was finished in, those wood flavours are really pronounced and come through quite nicely. It has a bit of a bite to the finish although it’s a bit dry, which I was never really a fan of but I’ve gotten used to it and it gives a different aftertaste that I’m starting to enjoy more and more.

Amazing! Sweet notes right off the bat, easy to drink and super smooth. I really tasted the fruits and vanilla flavours on the palate and a great aftertaste that lingers for a while letting you enjoy the flavours a little longer. Honestly a great whisky, Glenfiddich is always somewhere at the top of my list of favourites and this one is no different. Great flavours, great balance, amazing whisky overall!

Pleasantly surprised by the taste of this whisky. Completely different from what you would expect, obviously the big missing piece being that it’s unoaked so there is no flavour coming from the oak which gives it that flavour we all love, and the colour being completely clear, almost feel like you’re having something other than whisky. (Gin , Vodka, etc.) However, having said that, I enjoyed the flavour of this unoaked whisky, it was different and refreshing to see something different as well. It wasn’t my favourite taste profile but it’s not a bad whisky, not terrible to drink. The first thing I noticed was it tasted a bit stronger than I expected it to be, almost like punching me in a the mouth, sweet on the palate as well, but went down a lot smoother than I expected but with much more of an ethanol forward base and lacked the balance and flavour you get from the wood barrels. Had it been distilled in oak barrels rather than the copper pot, the flavour might have been a little more balanced, it also would have probably turned into a typical whisky flavour profile and I think that was the point Kilinger was trying to make with this bottle being distilled in copper in the first place, to be able to differentiate it from the others.

Great spice flavour profile to the palate, corn, a bit of cinnamon, char on the finish. It’s very smooth for a bourbon but it does have that typical bourbon kick at the end, which is what you want with bourbon. For someone trying a bourbon for the first time, or is not a fan of bourbon, the 1792 will definitely make you like bourbons and steer you in the direction of trying out more of them. It has flavours that would put bourbons on your radar the next time you’re out looking for your next bottle!

The Captains reserve has a very sweet forward profile which I really love, it is probably my favourite profile to have on a scotch. The ex-sherry cask gives it that sweetness that you want with some great notes of honey, vanilla, marshmallow, fruits, but is balanced with a spice from the the ex-bourbon cask as well.

I was really impressed with the Sherry Oak Cask. It maintains the traditional Macallan flavour that is so distinct, but gives it that sweetness that the original Macallan 12 lacks. The flavour profile on the palate is creamy and smooth, hints of sweetness like orange and honey and some oak wood notes as well. Smooth finish, not rough at all. Very easy to drink and enjoy! The nose is very similar to the palate, you really notice that sherry sweetness on the nose right off the bat, that profile really comes through more than anything. Almost no wood notes on the nose.

Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed June 5, 2021 (edited October 14, 2021)The flavour profile of this whiskey is very corn forward, I didn’t get any notes of the fruits like it mentions, but the corn and char was evident, however I found it to be easy to drink and smooth with a nice smokiness from the char.
