Tastes

This is one of those kick in the teeth fire bourbons. Reminds me of a high proof four roses or Elijah Craig. Caramel fire, but a little bit too sweet for me. Almost syrupy, which is surprising given the proof. Still quite nice.

Massive oak wave on the nose, flavors too. Just an assault of barrel, but over a sweet bed of toffee and caramel sweetness. Excellently blended, and feels balanced despite the huge wood kick. Medium body, but feels almost thick because of the heaviness of the flavor. Love this.

Incredibly strong hop aroma on the nose, dry and herbal. Flavor matches, complex, herbal, bitter, but still very nice. There's an underlying sweetness that helps balance it all.

The nose is light, can't place the aroma. Maybe congac? The flavor definitely has some congac sweetness to it but so much else. Layers and layers of flavor that open up into the tail. My palate isn't good enough to pick out all that's in here but it's absolutely fantastic. I could drink this forever.

Musty complex aroma, some alcohol burn as well. Flavor is sweet, with some aged wood flavors coming in on the tail. Molasses and vanilla and dark toffee, tastes aged and blended well.

Apple or pear sweetness underneath the usual rye spice. Definitely sweet for a rye, medium richness, body balanced perfectly. Long lingering peppery tail, quite nice.

Grain, honey, vanilla the dominant flavors. Cinnamon shows up on the tail, butterscotch up front. Well made, but the combo of flavors isn't my style.

Heavy heavy caramel butterscotch aroma and flavor. Sweetness hits up front but then just gives way to acetone burn. Not balanced, not even an enjoyable burn. Syrupy and chemically. Not impressed.

Bright brown sugar and graham cracker notes with underlying cinnamon and baking spice. Subtle, carried by the barrel strength. Rich, a little off balance towards the spice. Excellent around Christmastime.

Very rich from the start, lemon and honey notes. Not sour, just a little citrus flavor that's quite nice. Richness lets tail tingle for a while, but it's mostly burn. Flavors are light but the body isn't, the contrast doesn't work as well as it could.
