I admit up front that I've never been a fan of JW in any form. From time to time I encounter and am always hopeful that my opinion will change. It never does. Aroma is of a recently smothered campfire. Flavor is a straight mix of smoke in the front & honey in the back. And they don't work together. Someone loves it and I respect that. It's just not me.

Light & bright copper in color Aroma Brown sugar, light toasted oak, slight grainy corn Very creamy mouth feel almost oily. Some perfume notes floral, seems like some nice Rye notes coming through. Decent depth of spice. Mint, moment of nutty flavor. As it opens more nutty spice with a long finish. Like it a lot. 3 drops of water totally killed the Aroma, very interesting. Black Pepper comes to the forefront. Perfume pop and a bit more depth on the finish stays creamy. Some buttery notes as I work through the glass and did think of butterscotch. Really nice Bourbon

Warehouse KE, Barrel 14-4V Once a year I infuse this Bourbon with Benton's Bacon for Holiday gifts. Of course, I've had it on its own from time to time, but until know haven't dedicated a bottle to consuming in its raw form. It's a great bourbon. Aroma is floral and perfume like as I note with all Four Roses. Mint, lots of spice with cinnamon and Maple. Some nice fruit notes and complex at first. As it opens, sweetness comes to the front with other items receding. Flavor of orange peel, lots of spice notes with oak and honey on the finish. Moments of candy corn and a touch of crisp cracker and oak long on the finish. Really enjoy this and Four Roses continues its journey as a favorite for me. There is a bitterness at the very end that keeps this from being a 4.5. So close. Maybe the next bottle

High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 6 (All Scenes)
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed July 11, 2020Still extremely good (Scene 5) but not as epic as the other version I've tried. Aroma is nice and has both spice notes of Rye but also deep baking spices and dark fruit. Opened up nicely Mint, berry, all spice and lots of Rye notes in the flavor. Couple drops of water were nice and kicked up the spice. I'll continue to look for this Rye and it's a favorite. -
Auchentoshan Three Wood
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed July 11, 2020 (edited November 1, 2020)My first Scotch review (vs American Whiskey) and a recommendation at a restaurant as I wanted to try a Scotch. Really enjoyed this and I realize at some point my whiskey journey will center in Scotland. Aroma dark dried fruit with sweetness, Cinnamon, pencil erasure, light earthy and with barrel char, brown sugar and a moment of Maple. Flavor follows many of these same features with dark date, the baking spice, notably cinnamon with plenty of vanilla towards the finish. Honey notes and almost oily mouthful. Very rich and luxurious. On finish the cinnamon and barrel char created a touch of a fireball flavor. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a bottle of this in my cabinet in the next 60 days. -
Van Winkle Special Reserve Lot "B" 12 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 8, 2020 (edited July 28, 2020)Good, just not epic. Aroma has mostly velvet caramel, some heat and cinnamon & spice notes. The flavor front to back does deliver on the Aroma and continues the velvet smooth theme. Sweet candied fruit and caramel with some oak on the finish. The finish doesn't last as long as I would have hoped. Just a touch oily which is nice. The complexity and depth of flavor was missing here. The flavor & feel are very nice, but at this level you should be exploring as you work through the glass. Just not so. -
Wild Turkey Diamond Anniversary Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 6, 2020 (edited March 7, 2021)Saw this on a menu in Charleston and had to try it. In the end, it was good, but nowhere near amazing. Aroma of cinnamon, other spices and then some oak. Flavor is initially sweet, next Rye spice and cinnamon then oak for the balance. Was hoping more from the finish. -
Bright Copper/Amber in Color Aroma of bright berries, raspberry or strawberry. Really wonderful aroma. Berries in the flavor again. I keep switching between the raspberry and strawberry and as I work through the glass the strawberry with some cinnamon comes forward. Oak is present but nicely in the back row to provide depth. Alcohol makes itself known, but warming and cozy vs "hot". Some brown sugar melted in butter notes. Twice I got marzipan.. Last sip was really of a wonderful strawberry preserve. Long Kentucky hug on the finish here. Really nice finish. Just shy of Birthday Bourbon for me, but really nice. (like better than any Pappy I've had)

Really light gold color. Among the lightest I've seen. Aroma is lots of cinnamon and almost like a Red Hot candy. Musty corn grain just beneath this. It just hit me, smells like uncooked pizza dough. Flavor - vanilla with some light cinnamon. Much less than the Aroma let on. Pretty sweet and really coats the tongue. Almost oily. Finish falls off and leaves mostly a light corn flavor. Didn't really notice this opening up at all with some time. Just a single note. A touch of water brings out some ethanol heat and cinnamon. Amped up the flavor a bit, but I wouldn't say it improved it. Bottom Line - they aptly named this as the two stars it deserves.
