Heaven Hill 27 Year Barrel Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 15, 2022 (edited June 9, 2022)Wood front & center. Deep oak & nutty caramel with lots of spice notes & cedar. A lot of black pepper in flavor & finish. Vanilla emerges as it opens. Actually a lot of herbal notes. Very good, but shy of epic -
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 9 (All Scenes)
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed November 11, 2021 (edited July 1, 2022)Midwinter Nights Dram is truly one of my favorite bottles of the year. Shocked & pleased not only to secure a bottle, but to add to the site. The complexity is so fantastic. Aroma is a winter spiced, cherry treat with lots of herbaceous notes. Some mint & touch of menthol. Thick in the glass with plenty of legs in the glass. Thick and, almost, oily mouth feel. Love it. Flavor also hits a cherry spiced flavor with mint and herbal notes lingering on the finish. A slight bready note on the finish as well. Just great, as always -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2021-02 "Tagalong Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 6, 2021 (edited December 26, 2021)This is one of my favorite releases of Booker's. To me this is a Booker's for Booker's freaks. Amped up everything. Deep roasted peanut Aroma and you can actually smell/sense the viscous nature of what's to come. Oily, thick peanut brittle, peanut butter, spice and a corn bread note. The finish is amazing. Again I mention peanut brittle as the experience. Lovely -
Baker's Single Barrel Bourbon 7 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 31, 2021 (edited January 5, 2022)Was better than I thought it might be. Lots of vanilla, caramel and light cinnamon. Water expanded Tha palate and brought out a touch of pepper and oak. Left with a toasted note and vanilla on the finish. To me this is the classic Bourbon, where I won't seek it out or buy a bottle. But, when offered I'll enjoy with a smile -
Weller Antique 107 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 5, 2021 (edited December 26, 2021)Really my clear favorite of the Weller lineup. Aroma is of brown sugar, some fruit and a sense of butter and vanilla. A toasted buttery caramel with vanilla notes all supported by a light, but interesting spice and toasted notes. Honey notes and a thick viscous body. Deep with an amazing finish that builds but never gets hot. Meant as a compliment, reminds me of an old time candy, Sugar Daddy. Big slab of dark toasted caramel. Just a hint of mint & menthol Really delicious -
Plantation XO 20th Anniversary Rum
Aged Rum — Barbados
Reviewed October 3, 2021 (edited December 26, 2021)This is just delicious. My understanding is that these barrels are used for Angel's Envy Rye... I start here because that's a favorite and how I was led to this gem. Sweet Aroma of mostly molasses & brown sugar with strong hints of banana to come. Which came first? Chicken/egg? Does this remind me of bananas foster because Rum is in it? Or is rum in Bananas Foster because it pairs so well and Banana notes are prevalent in the profile. Either way that's what I think of in both Aroma and flavor. Sticky mouth feel and all the same flavors as above with the addition of vanilla. In fact, should have noted vanilla extract in the Aroma. Almost Creamy with black licorice notes Glorious -
High West Rendezvous Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed September 25, 2021 (edited March 24, 2022)Having again and enjoying even more than I remember. More vanilla amongst the Rye spice and a decent amount of mint. A wonderful Creamy mouth feels that works well with the vanilla. Really nice lingering finish. Very herbaceous..
