Not a Bulleit fan. Its too harsh and edged for me. Given this, I have avoided the $50 bottle of 10yr. A friend who really likes the 10yr gave me a pour and I was surprised. The 10yr is a drinkable bottle. Again, too full flavored for my tastes, but drinkable. 10 years in the barrel helps to lessen its flaws. It is much like an elegant sauce hides an improperly prepared entree. All this being said, at $50 I would continue to pass on this.

Willett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 24, 2019 (edited March 8, 2020)Thanks to a friend who shared a pour I now know what I have been missing. It has a different flavor profile than I am used to but in a good way. Lots of peppery cinnamon notes. There were enough caramel and vanilla notes to add to the overall taste, but not enough to be overpowering. The bottle itself was interesting enough for me to be suspicious if the contents could measure up. I was pleasantly surprised. It would have been a better experience if Barbara Eden was somehow released from inside and helped me to sample the pour, but alas...no. Too bad this continues to be unavailable in NC. -
New Riff Kentucky Straight Bourbon Bottled In Bond
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 10, 2019 (edited August 24, 2019)I was on a trip in the Dayton/ Cincinnati area last month and picked up a bottle after a bit of research. Its the only sipper I had in my hotel room for the week so I had some time to get acquainted. I was not expecting much from a micro distillery who elected to start their business by putting out a bottled in bond product instead of with a good blend of sourced juice. Boy was I wrong. The Folks @ New Riff have started out of the gates on the correct path. Instead of a young subpar product with a gimmick built on touring a distillery, these folks have produced a quality bottled in bond product. It has enough spice to keep the dram interesting. It has enough depth and complexity to stand on its own while at a price point where you don't mind mixing. I found it a better rocks pour than a neat drink. If you can locate some online its worth $37 to try. I brought a few home to gift my friends. I can't wait to try the Single Barrel and Rye they also have available. Great Job New Riff!37.0 USD per BottleLittle Farm -
I am not a big rye fan. I am an Old Forester fan however. This dram is a hit and a miss. It has a unique flavor profile for a rye. It is not the usual suspect. It also doesn't have the expected distillery notes from OF that I was hoping for. Like most rye bottles, it is painfully thin and lacks dimension. It also lacks the normal cinnamon spice I usually find as a redeeming quality to rye. However, there are no off notes or young flavors in need of taming. It is not bad like Bulleit Rye, but not interesting like Knob Creek Rye. However, for its price point of $25 in NC, I must rate it above $37 Knob Creek. It just lacks the complexity and interesting flavors of Sazerac and High West offerings regardless of cost. Again, after a few rye nights to reset my palate, Bourbon tastes ohhhh so much better.25.0 USD per Bottle

My friend found a bottle of this on a discount rack as its been de-listed in NC. I was not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. It had flavor, spice, and dimension, but not a great amount of depth. Not much oak or vanilla to speak of but no offputting flavors. Nice cinnamon notes which must indicate a higher rye mash bill. All the good news about this unavailable spirit fails to overcome the fact that I can get much better bottles for ~$30. While I appreciate the different flavors for an affordable price, Corner Creek suffers from the overloaded bourbon offerings in its price range that are far superior.

High West Double Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed March 18, 2019 (edited September 3, 2019)I am not a big rye fan, but this is surprisingly good. It still has the, "giant hole" in it's flavor profile that seems to plague most every rye I have tasted, but HW still comes through with some good flavors. I am a big cinnamon fan and this rye is short on cinnamon and cloves. It has back of the mouth heat which is much preferable to the front heat that lesser drinks seem to provide. My rye of choice is the Sazerac 6yr(now NAS). It is full of cinnamon, has more flavor than HW, and is only $29. It is not as readily available, but it is a better value. I would like to try the HW Rendezvous Rye, but it is even pricier. I understand that rye leaves space in it's profile for mixologist to operate and fill in the blanks, but I much prefer a dram that is more ready to drink.37.0 USD per BottlePalmetto Spirts -
Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 5, 2019 (edited May 24, 2019)I am a bit disappointed in my first pour from this bottle. I am a big Knob Creek fan but this seems a lesser drink than the regular small batch. A splash of water seems to do very little. I have high expectations of higher proof single barrel offerings to bring assertive flavors and bright textures. This misses the mark. I am hopeful that this is from a weak barrel or maybe it just needs some time to air out a bit. I will give it another go in a few weeks. -
Jefferson's Reserve Twin Oak Custom Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 1, 2019 (edited February 18, 2019)Jefferson's does it again. This is really good. I have no idea how sourced juice continues to turn out so good, but keep it up Mr Zoeller. I still feel the Jefferson's line is overpriced, but I cannot doubt it's goodness. This is not as good as the Ocean Voyages I have sampled, but it is $25 less. It also has more oak notes and more depth of flavor. I believe it is a fair trade off. If you can get a bottle on sale, don't pass. Thanks @ridethalightin for sharing. -
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 1, 2019 (edited May 24, 2019)This is a very good pour. I am not certain of the price point but based on taste it is on point. The oak notes over power the vanilla and subtle floral notes I usually pick up from WR, but it's still good. The finish is a bit smoky but not unexpectedly. This is not an everyday sipper due to the heavy oak, but it definitely works as a change of pace. -
Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey (Discontinued)
American Single Malt — Colorado, USA
Reviewed February 1, 2019 (edited February 5, 2019)I am trying to be charitable, but this was not very good to me. It had very very strange flavors. I can handle different, but this bottle strays way beyond my abilities to appreciate. Thanks @ridethalightin for sharing...i guess...At least I didn't drop coin on this pour. My suggestion would be to take a test pour at an establishment if you must before an investment.
