Vanilla, caramel and pepper on the nose plus a more aggressive, raw agave note than I have experienced with tequila. Silky entry on the palate with the same vanilla, caramel, pepper of the nose with sweet agave. The finish is medium length and a little peppery. I have really no experience with Mezcal. I thought this was great and, if representative of Mezcal, I will be drinking more of it.

If I had tasted this blind, I would not have pegged it as Jamaican rum. In fact, I may not have pegged it as rum at all. It smells and drinks more like a bourbon finished in rum and wine casks. Cask 2, bottle 139. Vanilla, caramel and red wine aplenty on the nose. Buttery entry on the palate, more vanilla, caramel, red wine, baking and barrel spices plus hints of tropical fruits. The medium finish starts with a bitter note which quickly dissipates leaving, at last, what reminds me of spiced rum to slowly fade away.

Plantation Fiji 2009 (2019 Release)
Aged Rum — Fiji
Reviewed December 25, 2020 (edited January 2, 2021)Wow, what a great nose, its rich with vanilla, dried bananas, hogo, papaya, oak, sour cherry and baking spices. Palate has a silky entry which is quickly followed with a spicy, prickly bite on the tongue, there’s vanilla, caramel, pepper and light tropical fruits, quite a let down from the nose, but still tasty. The finish is long, spicy and warming with a nice little chocolaty note emerging at the end. -
John Walker & Sons Celebratory Blend
Blended — Scotland

Three weeks and a quarter bottle later this whiskey has really blossomed. Dried red fruits, malt, vanilla, baking spices and a little peat smoke on the nose and the soft, creamy palate. The palate adds some marzipan, milky tea, chocolaty and caramel notes with pepper arriving late. The pepper, milky tea and chocolate notes continue through the medium finish. -
