Bardstown Bourbon Co. Discovery Series #6
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed July 17, 2022 (edited July 29, 2022)Nose: the gang is all here. vanilla, caramel, leather and brown sugar. Palate: vanilla candy sweet at the start. Like some vanilla taffy. Turns into some caramel candy shell to end with some tobacco. I really like this profile. The finish sits on your chest. Long Kentucky hug. Overall: I got this in a distillate to barrel sample box. I’ve seen this in the stores for 135 dollars a bottle. I’ll probably never own a bottle due to the cost. It’s pretty good pour for sure. -
Old Forester Single Barrel Bourbon Barrel Strength
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 16, 2022 (edited October 19, 2022)Nose: toast, caramel, vanilla, leather and tobacco and bits of honey. Palate: slightly sweet pie crust. Dark fruits and bits of cinnamon. For lack of a better description this is f#%!*!* delicious. Finish: long Kentucky hug. It lingers on forever. Overall. 4.25 out of 5 but it could easily be a 5. This is a fantastic pour. -
Nose: Heavy fruit forward. I get berries, apricots, orange peel and brown sugar. The palate: I get boozy fruit. The Apricot in this makes me think of one of their rye offerings barrel seagrass. There’s the dark fruit coming through too. This have amazing flavor. Finish: long lingering Kentucky hug. At cask strength it’s sticks around. Overall: I’m well versed in the world of whiskey but I’m a novice in the rum world. That being said if other rums are better than this offering then sign me up to try more. This is dynamite.

HIRSCH The Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 21, 2022 (edited September 26, 2022)Nose:Caramel, orange zest, leather, vanilla. Very bright on the nose. Palate: burnt sugars, barrel spices, vanilla toffee tobacco. Finish: long Kentucky hug. Spicy on the back end. Hangs around forever. Overall: this is fantastic. When I first cracked it I was not impressed. I can back some weeks later after some air got into it and wow. This is a hitter. -
Nose: caramel and vanilla. My be some light citrus. Palate: baking spices, a hint of tobacco vanilla. This is a easy drinking whiskey. The end of the palate is where the spices linger and hang around for a while. Long Kentucky hug. Overall: if this was always available I’d score it higher. But because you have to pay some ridiculous secondary for it I can’t give it top marks. I got my bottle at retail in Roseboro NC. Now for retail is an exceptional expression. At retails 4.75-5 stars. I would not recommend secondary because the knob creek 12 exists and you and get it pretty easily and it’s delicious. So for what people pay for secondary I’d give it 3 star. Take all that away and this is a 4 star wheater easily.

Nose: caramel, vanilla, clove and brown sugar. Palate: this is a sweet and spicy rye. A little note of vanilla and caramel chases by rye spices. Goes from sweet to spicy very quickly. Lovers of a spicy rye this is for you. Finish: peppery that lingers. A note of sweet. Overall: this is a really well balanced rye. I can never find it in my area of North Carolina until now. I’m glad I bought two bottles at 27 dollars a piece. Great 100 proof affordable rye. Get yourself one.

Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 15, 2022 (edited September 21, 2022)Nose: slight vanilla, black pepper slight mint Palate: dark berries, barrel spices and Caramel. I really like this flavor profile. Sweet and spicy. Finish: sweet and peppery in the finish. Costs the tongue. It’s a great finish. Overall: this is barrel 8072 and it’s great. I have been underwhelmed by the new riff single barrel bourbon offering I have so I was a bit suspect about this one. I highly recommend the rye. 4/5. Great pour. -
On the nose I get leather, brown sugar and some ethanol. Palate: a bit of sweetness like Carmel. That a nice not in the middle of the palate. Round out by barrel spices. This is all subtle but it’s good. Finish: finishes with some of that subtle sweetness and leather. Overall: I’d buy another bottle. It’s solid. Not my fav rye but this is a decent pour.
