Tequila Tapatio Blanco 110
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed October 17, 2021 (edited April 25, 2024)Wow this is a spectacular blanco. I gave it 5 stars as it's the best I've ever had. I've always been a cask strength/high proof kind of guy. Options are limited in Canada. This tapatio delivers on all cylinders. Great agave, citrus, pepper, clean flavors... just wow.60.0 CAD per Bottle -
First of all let this one breathe, I was in a rush and took a sip right away and took an ethanol burn on the nose then overly sweet apple on the palate. I walked away shaking my head for 10 minutes. Coming back to it the nose is nice rye spice and oak, it smells great! On the tongue though there is something off about this, it's oily to the point of being unnatural, like maybe too much glycerin was added. I tried to get some legs in my glencairn glass and they run really thick and oily. At this proof I would expect it to be thin and quick to evaporate on my tongue, but it really coats it and just settles till I swallow. And again with something unnatural... spice I get but it's more like candy cinnamon hearts. I don't know what to do with this one... I splashed it on some cola and it still wasn't super enjoyable. I guess maybe I could just smell it all day. At the price point a bit disappointed.50.0 CAD per Bottle

BEARFACE One Eleven Series: Oaxaca Edition
Canadian — Canada
Reviewed September 9, 2021 (edited January 22, 2023)While I applaud bearface for trying something new it's not a bottle in my cabinet that gets picked up very often. Mezcal is such a smoky spirit, to add it to a non-smoky whisky like rye I find it turns into a cheap tasting scotch. Its like a bowmore 12 to compare it to something similarly priced, maybe not quite as peaty but close. I feel like mezcal would pair better with a scotch, although I've also had dewars illegal smooth scotch aged in mezcal barrels, and that too was a little offputting for me. Keep in mind I'm not a peat man. If you like peat then I think mezcal is for you. I love tequila and I try to love mezcal but I'm having a hard time with it. Back to the whisky at hand I would probably gift this to a scotch drinker and they would be okay with it. This is lighter than the standard bearface whisky which I believe is aged 7 years. This one eleven edition is aged 4 years and the mezcal 2 years if I'm not mistaken. That makes it a 6 year aged product... jk forgive the pun. As a younger product it really shows, I wonder if they tried pairing the mezcal with the 7 year? Maybe it was a waste of the 7 year. And I think thats what it comes down to, is the one eleven lacks depth. I will keep this bottle around as it is a curious product and as I said good on them for trying something new.40.0 CAD per Bottle -
As a big fan and repeat customer of Jim beam black (plus all the higher end expressions) but an insane sale price of Jim beam white led me to finally make the purchase. I'm trying to think of another bourbon bottled at 40% and can't really (Though I don't typically look for entry level bourbon, this could very well be the norm). It really tastes like "bourbon light" and I don't really know what to do with it. It is all the flavors I like in a bourbon... vanilla, oak and caramel but it is all so muted and watered down its hard to enjoy. Even in cocktails it lacks the punch and I find myself having to drink twice as much at a time to be able to get enough of what I want. I guess the pro is I get drunk faster, but all the cons of a weak underwhelming drink outweigh this one aspect.20.0 CAD per Bottle

Michter's US*1 Sour Mash Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 2, 2021 (edited October 29, 2021)This is bourbon all day for me. Vanilla, butterscotch and oak. Along 6 other michters bottles this was my favorite plus the American whisky. Arguably the two cheapest bottles of the night but both had that corn sweetness I love in bourbon. Even though American whisky isn't technically a "bourbon". I'm surprised there is so much rye in this one, I don't really get rye.86.0 CAD per Bottle -
The sample I received was marked barrel strength rye 53.2% which doesn't really match up with other reviews here but not sure where else to put it. I got a lot of spice and ethanol on this one and at the price of $200cad it just isn't worth it to me. I get more depth on an alberta premium cask strength for $60 at ~65% depending on the release.200.0 CAD per Bottle

Michter's 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon (2021 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 2, 2021 (edited July 9, 2021)Tried this along with 6 other michters bottles. While this one was very smooth it almost had scotch qualities to it with a bit of brine and smoke. Definately wasn't my favorite and the price tag makes it something I wouldn't personally buy.240.0 CAD per Bottle
