Westland Sherry Wood American Single Malt
American Single Malt — Washington , USA
Reviewed December 19, 2016Overall, a nice whiskey. Honey is prominent on the nose, with a little burn. Mild sherry flavor, more honey sweetness and heat. Finish provides bitter wood and a dry smoke, and if you wait long enough chocolate and walnuts show up. -
Jura Superstition
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed November 14, 2016 (edited January 26, 2019)Cereal, honey, hazelnut, and malt on the nose. The subtle smoke is nice when you don't want want to be overtaken but have a little peat without being medicinal or oily. Nicely balanced: a little sweet, a little salty, a little nutty, a little smoke. The smoke fades quickly but the sweetness develops on the finish. Opens well as it sits. Would be happy to own a bottle. -
Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 7, 2016 (edited December 14, 2016)Aromas of honey, vanilla, almonds, and biscuit. Not overly hot after the first sip, but some sips are hotter than others. The bourbon cask influence is the strongest on the palate. I wouldn't describe this scotch as fruity, as the chart would imply. The heat lingers in the bottom of the throat, with some light tobacco being the prominent lingering flavor. Water slightly intensifies some of the flavors and a little char smoke, but doesn't much dull the heat. Decent scotch but not something I'd need in my home bar.
