Richard Petty Whiskey 43
Blended American Whiskey — Virginia, USA
Reviewed November 23, 2019 (edited December 3, 2019)As a fan of Richard Petty, I bought this VA ABC Closeout more for the bottle than for the whiskey. I opened it with low expectations and wasn’t surprised . It pours very light. There are notes of corn and paint thinner on the nose. The mouthfeel is thin, but astringent. After all this is a 2 year old blend, bottled as a “80th birthday tribute” to NASCAR’s King. I’ll just say I’m glad I got it for half price, but it’s still not a real bargain. Though I prefer my whiskey neat, this will probably wind up mixed.22.0 USD per Bottle -
Fireball Cinnamon Whisky
Flavored Whiskey — Canada
Reviewed November 8, 2019 (edited January 30, 2020)Not really a fan of many flavored whiskies, but this one isn’t bad. The whisky is smooth and the cinnamon is reminiscent of the old “Atomic Fireball”.16.99 USD per Bottle -
Tasted in a Glencairn. Pours dark and rich and shows oily legs on the glass. The nose is honey, dark fruit and just a hint of alcohol. The taste is predominantly honey, a hint of raisin and pleasant alcohol warmth. This is an excellent sipping rum, but not quite as good as Appleton Estate Rare Blend...which is less sweet, more complex and less expensive.42.99 USD per Bottle

Joseph Magnus Triple Cask Finished Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (Finished and Bottled in Washington DC), USA
Reviewed November 5, 2019 (edited December 10, 2019)Tasted neat, in a Glencairn. The nose is sweet, dark fruit. The mouthfeel is pleasantly thick, as are the legs. The taste is more sherry and cognac than bourbon. Very nice sipping whiskey that may be a bit overpriced. This one doesn’t age well. After being open for a while, the heat of young 100 Proof bourbon begins to dominate the flavor profile91.99 USD per Bottle -
Dr. Stoner's Smoky Herb Whiskey
Flavored Whiskey — Virginia, USA
Reviewed October 26, 2019 (edited June 28, 2020)If this smells, and tastes, of “herb”; it must be a hybrid indica, it’s definitely not the sativa of my youth. It reminds me more of B & B, but not as sweet because of the whiskey base. Very flavorful herbal blend that might find a home in the cabinet, but not as a daily dram.32.99 USD per Bottle -
Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 1, 2019 (edited October 8, 2020)The $28.99 price is for a 1.75 L from VA ABC. Another Buffalo Trace bottom shelf offering from Mashbill #2. Aged longer and bottled at 90 Proof, this is a better sipping bourbon than standard Ancient Age. And contrary to what has been reported here, Buffalo Trace confirmed that it has not been discontinued. They dropped the age statement all together and became it Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star with a new statement that says “Aged at least 36 months”. Not bad for the price, but fairly prosaic.28.99 USD per Bottle -
Slipknot No. 9 Iowa Whiskey
Blended American Whiskey — Iowa, USA
Reviewed September 30, 2019 (edited October 1, 2019)Initial alcohol burn that will take your breath away. Then the flavor is unidentifiable, but obviously burnt. And then the obnoxious aftertaste kicks in. Definitely the worst whiskey I’ve had the misfortune of tasting, and quite possibly the worst ever distilled.39.99 USD per Bottle
