Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection Cabernet Franc Aged After 6 Years
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 21, 2019Beautiful floral and fruity nose. The flavors are delicious, but subdued. I wish this was a higher proof so that the flavors would sing a little louder. The finish is surprisingly lengthy for the low proof. I like this alot and am very glad I got the chance to taste it. -
Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 28, 2018 (edited January 21, 2019)This is amazing! I've loved sherry and port finished Scotch and I enjoy Bourbon so it only figures that this would be right in my happy place. On the nose, sweet cherries and vanilla like a decadent dessert with just a hint of corn syrup hiding underneath. On the palate, hot from the oven cherry pie with a caramel drizzle resting on a sweet oaky foundation. On the finish, long and lingering black cherry with the sweet oak undercurrent. The most dessert whiskey I've had yet, this is definitely a new favorite of mine. It would be awfully hard to find any competition in the price range.45.99 USD per Bottle -
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed December 25, 2018 (edited January 22, 2019)If more rye whiskey tasted like this, I'd drink more rye whiskey. This is complex and lovely in ways I did not anticipate. On the nose, predominantly sour cherries, but also hints of bread and butter pickles as well as pumpernickel bread. On the palate, I get the characteristic rye spice, but also the friendlier spices from the finishing barrels and cherries again. On the finish, vanilla and allspice with the oak coming through strong at the end. -
Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 21, 2018 (edited January 21, 2019)Delicious. The Sherry influence runs deep here. On the nose, strawberry shortcake and fresh cream. On the palate, raspberry barley scones. On the finish, black cherries and heavy whipped cream. My only complaint is that the whisky is thin. There is so much delightful stuff going on at the surface level, but when you look deeper, there is little to find. A thicker, more viscous mouth feel and more rich depth of flavor would make this a truly exceptional experience. Still quite lovely though. -
Stagg Jr Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 1
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 14, 2018 (edited January 21, 2019)I love this bourbon! Buffalo Trace Distillery makes amazing whiskey and this is my favorite American whiskey so far. On the nose: vanilla and sweet with hints of the oak running underneath. On the palate: Sweet and spicy with the oak coming up towards the front with the rest. Vanilla and cinnamon play with an undercurrent of Granny Smith apples. On the finish: long pleasant and sweet oaky goodness with hints of spice. Deceptively friendly at cask strength. This is amazing. -
