Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed February 14, 2020 (edited February 23, 2020)A lot of dark caramel and vanilla notes on the nose. The taste has a bit of an alcoholic burn but really doubles down on that great caramel taste that stays around in the finish with a bit of strawberry -
Green Spot Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed February 11, 2020 (edited February 23, 2020)Such a beautiful whiskey. I constantly get reminded of shortbread and berries and cream. It rounds it out perfectly. I thought I was an Islay guy for the longest time but I’m starting to become a convert to the Irish -
Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 10, 2020I'm finding some interesting nutty, almost salty notes today with this dram. It still has that traditional creamy, blueberry note but there's some more stuff revealing itself. A really creamy fruity note on the palate with a really lovely dark caramel finish. It honestly reminds me of the milk left over after you eat Fruity Pebbles if you added whiskey to it. Turns out that's something I really needed in my life. -
Nelson's Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee , USA
Reviewed February 8, 2020 (edited August 5, 2020)Such a sweet, welcoming whiskey with lovely hints of vanilla, black tea, and caramel. A little spice rounds it out and welcomes you into this original Tennessee Whiskey. Really nice fruity notes on the palate with an almost chocolate-cinnamon finish. The Green Brier Distillery is always a must-go when I head to Nashville. -
Laphroaig 10 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 26, 2020 (edited February 23, 2020)I love a good challenge from a whiskey and Laphroaig is always a good challenge with hints of seawater and rubber, lending itself to a smoky finish that’s hard to shake. May not be my favorite Islay but it’s fantastic for what it is. -
Woodford Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 20, 2020 (edited January 21, 2020)A lot of woodiness on the nose with some nice hints of black tea and cherry. Maybe even a little banana. Lots of that oak and some chocolate (?) notes on the tasting with a finish that's spicy and almost reminiscent of cherrywood. Not enjoying this dram as much as usual. Not sure why. -
I got the most oddly specific sense memory while drinking this... but it's eating dinner at a Western Sizzlin (a buffet chain in the Southeast) while at the beach. I've never experienced Ardbeg being this light before. Usually, I get punched in the face with some vicious smoke and meaty flavors, but this time it eased up quite a bit. A lot more lightness on the nose with some almost beachy smells coming in. A lot of that saltwater, briny smell. The taste brings forth a bit more of that bacon bits flavor I'm used to, but I keep finding this almost lemon-apple note throughout this tasting. I'm not sure what it is. A really interesting dram, that's to be sure.
