Dec 9, 2018 at Grain Tasting Bar in Vancouver. Served in a tasting glass as a flight 1 of 4, .75 ounce each. Light in color. Good legs on glass. A very enticing nose for what amounts to a 3 year old whisky. Vanilla, oak, hint of cocoa, maybe a trace of smoke. Smooth on the palate. Not quite as interesting on the nose as the Collingwood next to it. A nice whisky with natural or near natural color, and it is a single malt, but may be overpriced at $60. And again July 13th 2019 at Central City pub. Yum!

Teacher's Highland Cream
Blended — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 3, 2018 (edited August 3, 2019)Dec 03, 2018 at Fet's Whisky Kitchen in Vancouver. Served in a Glencairn glass. Plenty smoky , but not subtle. A bit of peat, but mostly just smoky. My favorite cheap scotch whiskey. -
Alberta Premium Canadian Rye Whisky
Canadian — Canada
Reviewed November 10, 2018 (edited May 9, 2020)Well damn, I like it. I'm a great fan of comparitive tasting, so just for fun I paired it with Canadian Club 100% rye. The CC is noticeably darker but otherwise very similar, which is to say deliciously spicy and herbal. The CC seems slightly fuller and rounder in body, but that could well be a cognitive illusion based on the darker color. I give the Alberta Premium the nod by a sliver thin margin for authenticity, ie. no added coloring. -
November 4th 2018 at Rogue Wetbar Gastown in Vancouver. Close on the heels of the Don Julio Anejo. Wonderful agave herbal notes on the nose, but without the oak barrel notes of the Anejo. The foregoing notwithstanding, there is a vanilla note here. As strange as it seems I may actually prefer this to the barreled version.
