The smoky nose isn’t shy. While the flavor is, of course, petey and Smokey, it’s not overwhelming at all. After the initial peat impact, the flavor melts away into a light, pleasant finish that seems to last forever. In the end, I keep coming back to what this whiskey is not: it’s not too peaty, it’s not too oily, and it’s not too briney. You’re left with a near-perfect experience. Slightly spicy on the finish. My goodness this is outstanding.119.59 USD per Bottle

Pours a very lite straw color. Nose is (obviously) smokey, but also noticeable is that medicinal quality. The taste is not so much petey as it is ashy. Also notable after several sips is the wonderfully complimentary briny character. Has a pretty easy finish that allowed me to soak in the flavor. This is a remarkably easy sipper for something with such a pronounced pete odor/flavor.59.99 USD per BottleBerwyn

Has a strong barley quality to the initial smell, that somewhat masks the vanilla and honey. Also getting apple and pear on the first smell. No smokiness at all. After it’s had some time to breath, the vanilla and caramel flavors shine through. Taste had a oak woody quality, with spice and a moderate-strong alcoholic finish. But like the nose, this improves with time. Taste becomes quite light and airy. Sweet apple.71.99 USD per BottleBerwyn

Came highly recommended and I was looking to continue exploring highland/Speyside drams. Nose was a caramel, raisin, malt sweetness with a slight-but noticeable-smokiness. Taste mostly follows. Noticeable peat flavor. Also somewhat spicy and hardly smooth. Burns a bit on the way down. Overall, this is a good scotch but for the price point, I was expecting more. I got a lot more out of my recent Arberlour 12 Double Cask (for half the price).80.99 USD per BottleBerwyn

Nothing radically different here but they’ve pulled off this style so well. Rich, buttery mouth feel, almost oily, which you expect from single pot still. Flavors are all there: caramel, honey, vanilla, orange rind. So smooth on the way down with a slight spicy note. The magic is in the execution. Terrific.44.0 USD per PourVillage Whiskey

Knappogue Castle 12 Year Bourbon Cask Matured
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed November 16, 2021 (edited January 12, 2022)Pour a very light apple juice color. Aroma is to me caramel, apple and vanilla. The mouthfeel is pretty light with a nice spice feel. Taste is caramel, butterscotch and, as others have noted, a bourbon sweetness that at times feels woody. Not much of a finish but a nice, polite, crisp Irish.42.99 USD per BottleBerwyn
