NOSE Honey, orchard fruit, spice, buttery graham, tangerine, vanilla, Fun Dip and a bit of frosting and malt. Baking spice slowly goes from amorphous to cinnamon and nutmeg lead as it opens. PALATE Dried orchard fruit, baking spice, graham, malt, banana, cocoa and a bit of oak, tobacco and a slight herbal character. Fruity and spicy in a way that does remind me, a bit, of a young rye whiskey. FINISH Medium -> Apple heavy fruit, malt, cocoa, spice and oak. But not like a bourbon oak, but like a small-barrel-craft-rye-whiskey kind of oak.

Glenmorangie Bacalta
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed February 24, 2022 (edited February 25, 2022)NOSE Sultanas, Honey Nut Cheerios, white peaches, malty milk chocolate covered graham, dried fruit and bits of vanilla pudding and butterscotch. Decadent and rich, the sweetness comes in layers. PALATE Sultanas, baked honeycomb, white peaches, malty milk chocolate covered graham, dried fruit and bits of vanilla pudding and butterscotch with a touch of candied fig. Almost a carbon copy from the aroma and comes in with a bit more depth and complexity. FINISH Medium – Long -> Sultanas, banana pudding, malt, butterscotch and a slightly spicy fade. -
NOSE Vanilla, butterscotch, malt, candy dots on wax paper, tropical and orchard fruit, citrus peels and dried fruit with lots of light sweet notes floating about. Smells like an olde time candy shop which, coincidentally, is what they were going for. PALATE Vanilla, butterscotch, malt, candy dots, tropical and orchard fruit, dry cocoa, lemon zest, baking spice and dark sweets Maltier than the aroma, but that same candy shop essence exists with light and dark sweet notes accompanied by fruit, chocolate and lemon zest with a light bit of baking spice. FINISH Medium -> Fruit, powdered sugar and a buttery sweetness.

NOSE Juicy sultanas, vanilla fondant, banana pudding, dried orchard fruit, Necco, cocoa, touches of butterscotch and spice. Waves of natural and manufactured (crafted) sweetness move back and forth over a banana pudding base. Sounds weird, smells awesome. PALATE Banana pudding, juicy sultanas, baking spice, malt and vanilla fondant with bits of cocoa and spice. Palate pulls back a tad from the aroma in depth and complexity, but only a tad. FINISH Medium -> Banana pudding, caramel, oak and spice.

Glenmorangie Companta
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 20, 2022 (edited June 20, 2022)NOSE SweetTarts, honied graham, baking spice, leather, cocoa, citrus zest and some vanilla frosting and ash. There is a mild candy sweetness that ties it all together and even hits moments of beautiful dark sweetness. PALATE Dried dark fruit, copper, SweetTarts, honied graham, baking spice, leather, cocoa, citrus zest and some vanilla frosting and ash. There’s an essence to it (dark fruit + honied graham) that makes me think of blueberry pie. It doesn’t taste like blueberry pie, but the combo of flavors here is triggering that thought. FINISH Medium -> Dark fruit, honied graham and copper in a warm oily fade. -
Glenmorangie Ealanta
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 17, 2022 (edited February 22, 2022)NOSE Creamy vanilla, oak, spice, malt, citrus, caramel, light butterscotch and banana taffy. Wow, the nose on this Glenmorangie Ealanta is wonderful. Robust and full of french pastry elegance. PALATE Same creamy vanilla starter but with a heavier caramel, malt and banana (banana caramel malted shake anyone?), fresh pastries, oak, cinnamon and some butterscotch and citrus. The “oak” note is a bit more subdued here and it’s a bit sweeter than the nose on the whole, but retains its beautiful balance. FINISH Long -> Creamy vanilla, caramel, oak, spice and honied graham on a birthday cake fade. -
Glenmorangie Artein
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed February 16, 2022 (edited April 27, 2022)NOSE Golden grapey sweetness, kouign amann, toasted graham, vanilla pods, green apples, buttery pastries and a touch of baking spice with a slight earthiness. This is dense and velvety. It’s a crazy complex aroma. PALATE Golden grapey sweetness, toasted graham, vanilla pods, spiced citrus, honey, dried orchard fruit, buttery pastries and a bit of nuttiness and floral notes. The palate pulls back a bit and doesn’t come through with the same depth and complexity. It’s a bit lighter and a bit more floral. FINISH Medium-long -> Grapey sweetness, malt, graham and some dried orchard fruit fade out with a bit of floral oak. -
NOSE Banana’s Foster, vanilla pudding, peat, toasted marshmallows, nuts, malt and dried orchard fruit. Not at all the typical Glenmorangie profile, but I’m digging it. PALATE Leathery dark fruit, banana pudding, smoke, roasted nuts, char, baking spice, vanilla malted shake, milk chocolate and some taffy sweetness. The palate is complex and alluring. As a-typical Glenmo as it gets but good. FINISH Long -> Dark fruit, roasted nuts, smoke and leather with a vanilla cupcake fade.
-
NOSE Sugary sherry, citrus, copper, leather, toasted graham, vanilla and nuts with some dried fruit. The PX notes aren’t subtle or shy here, they’re right upfront. PALATE Inky, sticky, sweet sherry, dry fruit leather, malt, vanilla cupcakes with orange frosting, roasted nuts and a bit of baking spice. A powerful palate that delivers a LOT of PX sherry influence. FINISH Med-long -> Sherry, roasted nuts, char, toasted graham and some metallic citrus on the fade.
-
NOSE Strawberry shortcake, dry sherry, honied graham cracker, baking spice with pops of vanilla, copper and leather. Warm, sweet and a slightly earthy, this is a good aroma. PALATE Strawberry shortcake, dry sherry, cocoa, honied graham cracker, baking spice with pops of vanilla, spice, nuts and leather. A near carbon copy of the aroma, but with some coco and nuts and a lack of copper. FINISH Medium-long -> Fruity, malty, darkly sweet and a bit malty.
