Reviewed February 11, 2022 (edited February 26, 2022)NOSE Apple cider, oak, honey, nuts, dried tropical fruit, malty sweetness and a bit of herbal notes. Nice, this is soft and fruity without being spineless, a nice profile to start. PALATE Herbal, apple cider, dried pears, nuts, malty sweet, nutmeg, white pepper and some oak and tropical fruit. A very slight cocoa note appears as it opens, but on the whole it’s herbally fruity. FINISH Medium -> Malty, herbal, touchy oaky and baking spice. -
Four Gate Batch 14 Old Sherry Pike

Reviewed February 10, 2022 (edited February 12, 2022)NOSE Sherry, copper, strawberry shortcake, vanilla, roasted nuts, bits of oak and baking spice, dried cherries and brown sugar. The sherry leaps out of the glass on this one, it’s a huge hit followed by an undertow of everything else. PALATE Dried dark fruit, oak, baking spice, nuts citrus peels, copper, freeze dried blueberries, hazelnuts and leather baking spice. fruit syrup Sweet and spiced with a huge layer of oak and more earthy notes. It hits an odd couple balance. FINISH Long -> Sherry, oak, baking spice and nuts fade out to an oaky spice. -
NOSE Toasted marshmallows, Banana’s Foster, dried fruit, dried corn and a touch of nuts. Light and sweet aroma with a slightly nutty undertone that pulls it together. PALATE Banana’s Foster, toasted mallows, coconut, dried fruit, honey, nuts and a light spice. There is a slightly earthy note to it, but outside of that undertone it’s pretty light and sweet. FINISH Short -> Banana’s Foster, coconut and baking spice flash out.

Reviewed February 9, 2022 (edited November 30, 2022)NOSE Oak, caramel, hazelnuts, grainy sweetness, toffee, dried dark fruit, vanilla pods, peanuts and a light “fresh clay” earthy note with a bit of baking spice. Nice classic Booker’s aroma. PALATE Oak, caramel, hazelnuts, roasted corn, toffee, dried dark fruit, vanilla pods, baking spice, roasted peanuts and a light “fresh clay” earthy note with a bit of herbal. Classic, warm, bold, heavy Bookers. Yes! FINISH Long -> Oak, baking spice, caramel, vanilla and herbal. -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2021-03 "Bardstown Batch"

Reviewed February 9, 2022 (edited November 30, 2022)NOSE Peanut brittle, oak, dried dark fruit, x-mas spice, brown sugar, touch of citrus and vanilla taffy. A light farmy note peeks out as it opens, but it’s definitely a return to a more standard Booker’s profile. PALATE Oak, peanut brittle, x-mas spice, citrus, brown sugar, vanilla taffy and a light herbal quality This is Booker’s. I’m digging the oak-lead profile that’s balanced against spice and sweetness. FINISH Long -> Oak, dark sweets and spice fade to a warm oak. -

Warm, approachable, pleasant, I’m enjoying this so far. PALATE Caramel, oak, vanilla, baking spice, black tea and some cereal sweetness with a touch of copper chalky cocoa and leather. Sweet and earthy, but unfortunately, heavily, dry and tannic. FINISH Medium-long -> Caramel, oak and cereal sweetness -
Redwood Empire Rocket Top Bottled in Bond Rye (Spring 2016 Vintage)

Reviewed February 8, 2022 (edited July 8, 2022)NOSE Caramel, herbal, oak, copper, dried fruit, leather, pepper, baking spice touch of malted milk balls. The dark sweet notes, caramel heavy, glide through heavily but balanced out by the rest of the notes. PALATE Herbal baking spice, oak, dried fruit, malted milk balls, citrus zest, copper and some pastry notes and leather. Spicier and brighter than the aroma, but still balanced and nice. FINISH Medium-long -> Baking spice, oak and herbal notes fade out evenly -
NOSE Caramel corn, rye bread, fresh muffins, copper, vanilla custard, caramel candy and a slight nutty note with some baking spice and oak. If I had one word to describe the aroma it would be fresh. It’s so clean, complex and interesting despite its lack of oak… I’m impressed. PALATE Grainy sweet, oak, herbal spice, vanilla custard, caramel candy, citrus peels and cocoa with a touch of dill and earth. Not quite as clean and crisp as the aroma, more earthy and grounded. It’s heavier. FINISH Med-long -> Dilly baking spice, oak and a bit of fruit fade out

The Gospel Straight Rye Whiskey

Reviewed February 7, 2022 (edited September 4, 2022)NOSE Dry-woody, citrus, baking spice, touches of vanilla, cereal grain sweetness and toffee with a light biscuity note. There is some of that “crafty-woodiness” to the aroma, but it’s far from being the dominating characteristic. PALATE Baking spice, vanilla, bergamot, cereal grain sweetness, honey, woody oak and some toffee and herbal notes. Not bad, in fact, it’s rather nice. The “crafty-woodiness” does rear its head, but it’s not strong or overbearing. FINISH Medium -> Baking spice, citrus peel and woody oak fade to more spice. -
NOSE Roasted malt, honied graham, dried fruit, oak, roasted nuts, brown sugar, baking spice and touches of citrus peels and vanilla. I love the aroma of this Glenmorangie 15 Years, I need a candle or something that smells like this. PALATE Roasted nuts, grilled fruit, manuka honey, dried orchard fruit, toffee, cinnamon heavy baking spice, oak, vanilla and a slight herbal note. This is a richer, amped-up, version of the old 10 with a deeper oak profile. FINISH Long -> Dried orchard fruit, graham, honey and oak fade out to a graham cracker sweet char.
