Springbank 15 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed October 26, 2022 (edited May 12, 2023)NOSE Leathery-dried dark fruit, Honey Nut Cheerios, freeze-dried strawberries, cocoa, malt, and some notes of banana Quik and that signature “Spingbank funk”. It’s dark, it’s sweet and comes through multi-faceted and balanced. PALATE Leathery-dried dark fruit, malty graham, cocoa, smoke, roasted nuts, x-mas cake, and a bit of candied citrus and Springbank funk. Strong earthiness runs through it, perfectly balancing out the sweeter aspects of it. FINISH Long -> Dried dark fruit, leather, and cocoa fades to graham and smoke. -

Reviewed October 25, 2022NOSE Caramel, graham, vanilla, honey, roasted nuts, smoke, cinnamon and a light bit of banana bread and Springbank funk. This is a heavy, heady aroma that rolls through the senses warmly. PALATE Smoke, caramel, banana chips, dried orchard fruit, vanilla, Honey Nut Cheerios and some oaky notes. Not quite as complex and robust as the aroma, but every bit as rich and deep. FINISH Long -> Caramel, graham, and honey fade to spice and smoke. -
Springbank 10 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed October 24, 2022 (edited October 25, 2022)NOSE Dried orchard fruit, sultanas, banana chips, graham and some touches of honey, spice and olde candy sweetness. Soft, easy, pleasant, there’s nothing to be mad at here. PALATE Dried orchard fruit, malty graham, banana chips, baking spice, honey and bits of olde candy and smoke. Smoke isn’t quite right, more like overly roasted nuts, like almost burnt, but just shy of it. FINISH Medium -> Dried orchard fruit, malt, and over-roasted nuts (smokyish) fade out to sweetness and baking spice. -
Port Askaig 100° Proof
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed October 23, 2022 (edited October 25, 2022)EYE Pale straw NOSE Orchard fruit (peaches, pears, dried apples), smoke, malty sweetness, vanilla, honey, minerality and a touch of plastic. Young, crisp and bracing. It’s a slightly spirity aroma that makes me think “Caol Ila”. PALATE Minerality, smoke, dried fruit, lemon peels, vanilla cake and some malty sweetness with a bit of spice. Like the aroma, there is a spirity nature to it, but it works quite well here. It’s a punchy sharp little whisky. FINISH Long -> Smoke, honey, spice and minerality. BALANCE, BODY and FEEL Decent balance, med-full body, oily feel. -

Wild turkey rare breed barrel proof
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed October 11, 2022 (edited October 13, 2022)NOSE Oak, baking spice, decadent baking spice, orange peels, vanilla, dried dark fruit, char, cocoa, marzipan and a touch of mustiness. Has just a hint of OBE to give it that musty dusty old feeling, but otherwise it’s a brooding oak and spice monster. PALATE Oak, cocoa, rich baking spice, roasted corn, complex dark sweets, dried dark fruit, leather, herbal, roasted grain and almonds. Dark and rustic with an elegant sweetness moving its way through. FINISH Long -> Oak, baking spice, dark sweets and a fruit -
NOSE Grassy, sweet corn, oak, caramel, marzipan, citrus peel, herbal spice, leather, touch of clove and red licorice. Sweet, earthy, mildly spiced, and full of oak and fruit. This is a complex and interesting aroma. PALATE Grassy, sweet corn, oak, caramel, cinnamon, clove, peanut brittle, vanilla taffy and some bergamot and leather. Complex and deep, this is a beautiful delivery of complimentary notes. FINISH Long -> Oak, grassy, sweet corn, and bergamot.

Bushmills 29 Year The Rare Casks Pedro Ximenez Cask Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed September 10, 2022 (edited November 4, 2023)NOSE SHERRY, dried dark fruit, printer’s ink, leather, chocolate, roasted malt, copper, oak, and some marmalade sweetness. Depth… this has a ton of depth and with each sniff, I get a nuanced new note of something new. Baking spice, fig, dates, brown sugar and on and on. It’s lovely. PALATE Pull all the notes from the aroma over and add a bit more ink, copper, oak, and a bit of tart cherries to it and you end up with a darker, yet fuller, version of the aroma. And it’s just a delight to sip. FINISH Long -> Dried dark fruit, leather, pastries, oak, copper, baking spice, and blackberries. -
NOSE Banana malt, hay, dried orchard fruit, vanilla, honey and a touch of oak. It smells quite nice. It’s not complex, but what’s there is warm, deep and buttery. PALATE Honied orchard fruit, banana chips, hay-like malt, Cornpops, vanilla and caramel with a slightly metallic hint. Again, not complex, but what’s there is buttery and warm. FINISH Med-long -> Honey, dried fruit, malt, vanilla, and orange candy.
