Visual: Orange Amber: thin, very slow, unevenly-spaced legs. Nosing: Deep oak, juicy vanilla and stone fruit. Sweet, Saigon cinnamon also comes through. Aromas of cherry pie filling hit the back of the nostrils. Tasting: Ridiculously smooth. Lots of sweetness comes through. Very oaky with lots of vanilla and caramel. Quite oily with a long finish. Toffee and cherry on the back end. Reduced Nosing: with water added, more fruity aromas comes through. Cherry candy, red bum and apricot are VERY evident here. Oak and Vanilla lessen. Some butterscotch. Reduced Tasting: sweet butterscotch. Zero harshness with water added. It does lose a bit of complexity however. Very surprised! This whisky punches well above its price point!54.0 CAD per BottleLCBO

Reviewed April 26, 2026 (edited April 28, 2026)Visual: Golden Amber; thin evenly-spaced legs. Nosing: Wood varnish, overly ripe apple; lots of oak, baking spices, namely apple pie filling. Tasting: Warm French Vanilla with fresh oak on the back end. A bit hot, but punchy and spicy. Has some Cognac notes on the finish but very subtle. A slight saltiness to it. Reduced Nosing: Some dark fruits and stone fruits come through with some water. Much more oak and vanilla comes through as well. Like warm apple pie and vanilla ice cream. Reduced Tasting: Very, very smooth with water added. Salinity is still there, but there's pleasant cinnamon and oak notes. Solid dram for a Canadian "bourbon" style whisky.64.0 CAD per BottleOdd Society Spirits -
Visual: dark amber, think, slow, evenly-spaced legs. A really hearty, strong dram. Very impressive from a tiny distillery. Nosing: Has this musty, herbal scent. Roasted tortilla chips, black pepper, cloves, cumin, and cinnamon. Some muted vanilla and salted caramel. Tasting: very sweet with a long, dry finish. Lots of vanilla, oak, and black pepper. Strong and hot. Definitely reminiscient of salted caramel ice cream. A certain brininess probably due to the B.C. Coast. Lots going on here. Reduced Nosing: that funky must is more pronounced with added water. Much more oak, vanilla, and sweet caramel, sweet grilles peaches and vanilla ice cream. Reduced Tasting: with added water, it's much more smooth. Buttery toffee and caramel come to mind. Lots of baking spices as well.64.0 CAD per BottleThe Liberty Distillery

SMWS 10.277 - Fire Without Smoke
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 25, 2026 (edited March 27, 2026)Visual: Golden straw; thin, slick evenly spaced legs. Nosing: instant coastal brine; scent of the sea carried by the wind. Salted cherry hits the back end of the nose. Sea-drenched wood; seaweed also present. Tasting: salty and strong; has quite a burn to it. Very oily with long finish. A sweet tang comes second. Salted nuts come to mind with charred jumbo shrimp comes to mind on the back end. Reduced Nosing: fresh charcoal embers (no smoke) with water; lots of floral notes come through, namely chamomile. Reduced Tasting: much more sweetness comes through with added water; almost ends up tasting like a sweet English tea. The oak is more prominent as well. Fresh vanilla on the back end as well. Amazing dram!! Its complex, weird and wonderful.234.0 CAD per BottleLegacy Liquor Store -
Visual: Golden Copper; thin, slow, evenly-spaced legs. Nosing: sort of a "cheesy" funk right off the bat; fruity. Oaky, soft, sweet smoke. Slight Band-Aid notes. Tasting: sweet, slightly briny and coastal. A balanced smoke at the forefront. A tad bit of leather too. Some baking spices, namely nutmeg. Reduced Nosing: With added water, nothing much new...maybe my nose is off tonight. I'm only really picking up some new, more floral notes. Reduced Tasting: with added water, burn lessened. More sweetness comes to the forefront. Much more smooth. Just a good, sweet. Smoky dram. Price point is a bit for this bottle I think...but I may just need more time with it.109.95 CAD per BottleLCBO

*From a bottle I found at my grandmother's house. Nosing: TONS of tumeric off the bat. Bitter orange, caramel, and various green herbs. Lots of mint hits the back of the nostrils. Taste: Very sweet up front and lots of cool mint and with a very bitter back palate. Some licorice in there as well. Lots of bitter orange peel too. A very nice and cooling Amaro.1.0 CAD per Bottle

*tried this from an old bottle my grandmother had stored. Nosing: sweet dried raisins, oak, marzipan and homemade marsala. Cinnamon and cloves are also evident on the back end. Tasting: sweet candied lemon peel, red and white raisins. Has a nice oak aftertaste too. Has a good body with a nice winey finish. There's lots a vanilla in this as well. Definitely sets itself apart from other brandies.1.0 CAD per Bottle

Nosing: lots of blood orange and lemon zest. Rum soaked raisins dominate the back of the nose. Vanilla, fennel, cloves and baking spices. Fruity and bold. Candied orange peel Tasting: very sweet, orange, and "meaty": oily body with medium finish. The orange sits firmly on the back of the palate. Clove and clementines are also a part of the palate here: reminds me of Christmas time. Sweet candied orange peel and sugared raisins hit the back end. A comforting classic!50.85 CAD per BottleLCBO

Spring Mill John Sleeman & Sons High Rye Straight Whisky
Other Whiskey — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed February 19, 2026Visual: Copper colour; thin, slow, beaded legs. Nosing: Pink bubble gum right off the bat, followed by heavy oak and vanilla. Baking spices, namely nutmeg. Light candied ginger at the back of the nose. Tasting: great body, long oaky finish. Sweet with tons of toasted oak. It reminds me of cinnamon dusted cooked bananas I put into my oatmeal. Reduced Nosing: with added water, very floral with lots of honey notes. Bubblegum is also enhanced. Reduced Tasting: with added water, much, much more vanilla. Burn lessens, much more room for sweetness: honey, cinnamon, oak, and icing sugar. At first. I didn't really care for this dram, but after sitting with it, I've come to enjoy it. It's underrated dram for sure; really warm, sweet and comforting.64.95 CAD per BottleLCBO -
*An old bottle (unopened) found at my parent's house. Visual: dark copper; quick, evenly-spaced legs. Nosing: dark plum skin; tart-smelling and vinous. High-tannin oak and vanilla bean. There's also a strong soy sauce/teriyaki notes. Black pepper, dates, and dried figs. Tasting: dry oaky finish; sweet off the bat, TONS of dark chocolate on the back palate. There's also lots of dark fruits up front as well--red raisins, prunes, dates, and figs. There's lots of clove and cinnamon character as well. This tastes like a rich fruit cake with a very liberal amount of dark chocolate drizzle layered onto it. I'm surprised at how good this surprise find is! It's definitely a great sipper and it's a very complex Portuguese spirit. It's definitely a great after-dinner aperitif and it's great to savour.1.0 USD per Bottle
