Russell's Reserve 13 Year Bourbon (2021 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 21, 2021 (edited August 22, 2021)Aroma - Whoa! Bold AF! Massive oak, molasses, vanilla, candied fruits. Complexity 10/10… don’t even want to take a sip bc of how awesome this is Taste- well this is just damn good. Complex, balanced, bold. More spice comes through here than in the nose (spearmint) and it integrates so well with the massive oak and vanilla presence. Water added - no need. It’s too good and too balanced for me to even consider Drinks like a >$100 bottle -
Out of the Woods W-1 F-05 R-015 Bottled 2/12/2016 Selected 3/15/2021 Proof 115 Aroma- pepper, wintergreen, sweet note of caramel. It’s more balanced than most ryes. Not over the top in the spice department. Taste- very nice complexity.. first sip and I’m getting a explosion of different flavor profiles.., winter green, rye spice balanced nicely with some burnt sugar, even hint of cherry and bubblegum. Similar to the aroma, the taste is very nicely balanced. Adding couple drops of water brings forward more oak profile. Actually preferred this one neat. Overall - 4.10-4.1555.0 USD per Bottle

Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 19, 2021 (edited October 18, 2022)Aroma- caramel, marshmallow, bright red fruit (strawberries). The rye and wheat blend really well together here. The nose is really awesome. Oak is very subtle. Taste - The balance is exceptional. Mimics the nose. Red fruits, carame corn and oak. The finish is where the rye starts to pop and the baking spices bring a truly make this offering really damn good. Overall - not overly complex but the balance makes this quite incredible. The wheat and rye balance is simply awesome. Only knock here is I wish the mouthfeel was a touch more viscous but with it at 100 proof it was somewhat to be expected. Also the oak is surprising mild here for it to be allegedly 12 years 4.65 -
Barrell Bourbon Batch 029
Bourbon — (bottled in) Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 11, 2021 (edited October 26, 2021)Aroma - sweet cream like aroma… burnt marshmallow.. oak and vanilla. some floral notes and tropical fruit presence.. very complex and enjoyable. Seems like something new comes forward with each sniff. Taste- love it when the smell coincides with the taste…. massive vanilla and slight orange citrus. Getting quite a bit of a creaminess to it. Completely different than any bourbon I’ve tried. Reminds me of a Orange creamsicle. Caramel and oak provide an amazing long lasting finish. There’s enough heat here that lingers reminding you to savor this one. Outstanding. -
Angel's Envy Rye Finished in Caribbean Rum Casks
Rye — USA
Reviewed August 11, 2021 (edited November 24, 2021)Aroma - massive cinnamon and apples. Sweet notes of brown sugar, maple syrup and even wintergreen. One of the most intriguing aromas on a bourbon I’ve ever experienced. Complexity is insane Taste - happy to report that the taste follows the nose and then some. But the maple really stands out. This bourbon is insanely complex and insanely flavorful. The rum really shines through here and provides a sweetness that complements the rye spice and cinnamon. At its price point, this is simply amazing. -
Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 23
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed August 7, 2021 (edited September 22, 2021)Aroma- oaky, vanilla, spice. Nicely balanced. Taste- medium bodied. Taste has more Carmel and vanilla. Some spice… touch of cherry. The oak is secondary here but that is okay bc the vanilla is really shining through. Heat was present on first couple of sips but dissipates quickly after that. Adding a few drops of water is recommend to speed up the process of mellowing out the heat and allowing that vanilla to shine through. -
Aroma - nothing really seems to come forward. There is a spice presence and some type of fruit… more tropical than dark fruit but I can’t pick point it. Taste - Surprisingly it lacks the complexity that I expected for a blend of 14 and two 8 year bourbons. Spice and oak dominate but it’s a little off balance. Add a couple drops of water and there’s more oak and vanilla. Spice mellows out making this an easy sipper. Overall - it’s good, but not great. The balance doesn’t seem to be there for me at this price point. Would pay $70 but apparently this one is going around $100.
