Tastes

Nose: Baking spice with a hint of sage/rye. It’s a little settled. Pallet: Heavy vanilla that finishes with chocolate and a full tongue tingle Finish: Maple and brown sugar and lingers just the right amount of time. I had it neat, perhaps on ice will help open it up. Next time.

Nose: Balanced sweet oak Pallet: Oak and char that turns to a touch bitter spice Finish: baking spice and vanilla What I would consider a traditional bourbon all around and a bottle that you could drink all of the way down. Different than a barrel proof that needs the proof to give the flavor body but burns the pallet. It took a long time and a number of favors to get this bottle but I’m on a journey to find another ;)

Loving the oak and spice with the vanilla finish. The first pour is the primer, second pour brings it all together.

Nose: Dry with notes of the red wine Pallet: smooth dry cherries with mixed berries Finish: hardly even a tingle There will be a lot of haters on this one but it’s for an easy sipper or an entry bourbon this is a great bottle.

It’s 95 MGP and that not a bad thing but tastes as you would expect with the upfront pine, classic MGP rye on the pallet and a slightly bitter finish. Like the name, good looking the bottle and great in a cocktail.

TJ’s Market Store Pick 2022 7 year, 114.2 proof Nose: You have to breathe in deep but I get dark caramel and barrel oak. It took it awhile to open up. Pallet: Brown sugar with aging fruits. One of the best weighted mouth feels I’ve had in a while, just perfect to chew on. Finish: Tobacco finishes into the brown sugar that you get on the pallet. There is the right balance of proof and spice that will make your whole tongue tingle. It does not drink like 114.2 proof which is a great complement. For a daily drinker I love it, but wonder for that pour with a cigar if it was 10 / 15 points higher it would be pairing! However, then I’d likely not finish the bottle.

Nose: Sour and fermented grain which is what you’d expect but it’s a little unpleasant. Trying it again and I get under baked bread. Pallet: There is a touch of 95/5 along with dark coco and bitter fruit. Finish: Hot with some vapor but doesn’t last long. This is different bottle, if your into scotch or something a little earthy with heat then you may like this. Worth trying if you find it at your local bar.

Keepers Heart is a very interesting blend keeping the Irish ahead of the American whiskey.

New brand and bottle to me. Enjoying the rye and oaky flavors this evening.

Jim Beam said that Legent would be my preferred bourbon, I have to agreed it’s damn good, fruit/wine on the first sip and then more of a oak finish on the second. Had it for the second night and getting the same notes, for a $40 finished bourbon, where have you been all these years. It back and enjoy. Only note is the watch how much ice, it does seam to get diluted very quickly.
