Gooderham & Worts Three Grain Little Trinity 17 Year
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed December 1, 2017 (edited April 12, 2021)This is a mature, excellent Canadian Whisky. The nose draws you in with toasted sugars or sweet caramel balanced with light fruit and a hint of orange. Taking a sip is at first sweet, light, smooth with honey and cereal, then moves to pepper and spice. The finish is long, warm, and brings out oak, and bitter orange. This Whisky is a delight and can reveal different parts with time or paired with different items to eat. (4.5 stars) -
This is a great scotch. It is well balanced with soft sweetness and gentle salt or briny notes. The palate is full with enough spice to stay interesting. With time the sweetness opens up a bit, but never becomes overpowering. There is a citrus note in the finish with a bit of smoke if you go looking. I strongly recommend trying this.

Canadian Club Chairman's Select 100% Rye

Reviewed October 18, 2017 (edited July 28, 2020)Mixed hype leading up to this. It is very affordable, but so many people have said it is amazing. On the nose I get a few floral notes, a little spice and with time some butterscotch, not to strong. On the palate sweetness of vanilla and some spice. The finish is descent length, with some oak notes maybe even char. After having a few the finish is almost bitter for me, but not quite. For the price this is really good (3.5 stars) -
Lot No. 40 12 Year Cask Strength
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed October 9, 2017 (edited November 7, 2017)Inviting and sweet on the nose, a bit of dark fruit and hints of dill or grass. The palate is full, spicy, and bold. Take time with this one. The finish is dry, but nicely lingers with wood notes. This is a must try whisky. If you can pick it up, do. The shelves will be bare soon enough! -
An enjoyable, gently Peated Scotch. I struggle to catch a lot of layers on the nose, but the smoke is inviting. It is light on the palate. Sweet, good vanilla, a bit of oak. This is refreshing. On the finish the smoke comes back and lingers. I would recommend as a first Peated Scotch to try and usually affordable. (3.5 stars)

Alberta Distillers makes some of the best Rye in the world. This is not a good example of their work. The nose is excellent and did draw me it. The initial taste also came out strong with Rye pepper and some caramel sweetness. However, it starts to fall apart for me after that. The sweetness continues and edges on candied cherries. When we get to the finish a bitterness begins to pick up. As I drink this into the night, the bitterness just continues to grow. Eventually it overwhelmed me. There is some dry oak in there but in the end I can't recommend this. Too bad, because these people know their Rye.
