Glenfiddich IPA Experiment
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed July 28, 2020 (edited August 21, 2020)This experiment stays fairly close to the Glenfiddich orchard fruits, and malt core. However, it adds a creamy and floral note that I enjoy. Maybe a little more citrus too. Interesting. -
Compass Box The Peat Monster (Classic Brown Label)
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed July 28, 2020 (edited November 8, 2020)Wonderful smoke, the edge of peat with a honey-sweet core. The palate is bold with a bit of maritime salt, and then more vegetable peat. Some crisp, tart apple too but the smoke and peat are the stars here. A great blend! -
Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2010
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed July 28, 2020 (edited December 26, 2021)This is a great scotch. I found it full of light, crisp and fresh fruits. Apple, stone fruits, gentle lemon, light honey, and some spice. The palate is rich and coating. Good malt and cereal sugar come up quickly, add some spice with a bit more lemon and light toffee. The finish is strong but fades into oak and a trace of light bitterness. Overall this is a full and strong experience. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys fresh, 1st fill bourbon. -
Jack Daniel's Tennessee Straight Rye
Rye — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed July 28, 2020 (edited August 6, 2020)This was disappointing rye for me. There are spices to be found, with oak and sweet fruit, but I was overwhelmed by a banana note. Perhaps that is just my palate. -
I have enjoyed this bottle more than this tasting. Usually, I love the smoke and spice on the nose. This time I picked up more vanilla, lemon, and vegetable peat on the nose. The palate did have some good malt and cereal notes with clove and ginger. A bit more campfire came through but this time it was a little empty. Twig, bark and a few other dry woods.

I find a good smoke quality to this dram throughout. First on the nose, but it continues all the way through. The malt is sweet for me with light apple and a bit of gentle peat. Sometimes I catch a bit of bitterness in the early finish that keeps me from loving it. Good peat to consider and it avoided the medicinal note that some Islay's bring.

Clynelish 14 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed July 28, 2020 (edited January 27, 2021)Lots of light fresh fruit on the nose. These are more toward tropical than orchard for me on this. Sometimes I get a mineral note on the nose. It has honey sweetness, a bit of wax, and vanilla on the nose too. The palate is rich and coating. The fruit is not as strong in the palate as in the nose. Instead, good malt, more spice, and some light toffee. With time a little brine or very light peat.
