Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 19, 2021 (edited October 1, 2021)Upon second tasting, this one pulls ahead. The dryness of the port does not overwhelm the whisky. Far more complementary than the La Santa, we have in order: black cherry, Turkish delight, and then oak. The wine lends a sweetness better integrated with the base. Also the flavors increase as they go, forming a pyramidal shape. Better fit for a king’s burial. -
Glenmorangie Lasanta Sherry Cask Finish 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 19, 2021 (edited November 23, 2021)Upon second tasting, and having had several better Sherry bombs since like Glendronach and Glenfarclas, I can only rate this as slightly below par. The balance between vino and uisce beatha is good, but both are weaker than desired and slightly muddle one another, smothering rather than complementing. Such a shame. -
Glenmorangie The Original 10 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 19, 2021 (edited December 10, 2021)Upon second tasting, it feels a little thin. Pleasantly sweet with classic heather honey and floral notes. Still enough of an edge to not be smooth. Definition of middle of the road. -
Glenfarclas 10 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 12, 2021 (edited September 20, 2021)A recent find via a United flight, nonetheless very serendipitous. I found rare notes of linguine/pasta (found elsewhere only in Glen Rothes Vintage) with a strong yet balanced sherry overcoat. About as complex fans unique as you could ask of a sub 10 year Scotch. Will continue to pursue this romance. -
Beefeater London Dry Gin (47%)
London Dry Gin — England
Reviewed September 12, 2021 (edited November 23, 2022)Very middle of the road gin. Short body with a classic gin taste. Passable -
Certainly one of the coolest bottles on the market. But does substance match form? I must say, that it truly does. Compared to regular tequilas this is vastly more complex, lasting, and hits certain notes found nowhere else in liquordom. The nose is salty and picante with a hint of Rosemary/mint. The palette is mellow and holds the standard tequila hits of agave and ethanol but leads to a long finish that runs through marmalade(!), barley, and the faintest vanilla! Bravo!

Koval Single Barrel Four Grain
Other Whiskey — Illinois, USA
Reviewed August 7, 2021 (edited January 1, 2022)Similar to the bourbon offering, the quality and complexity is apparent in the craftsmanship. There are four balanced, distinct flavors: allspice, clove, honey, and cherry. I would give this the edge on the bourbon due to the greater complexity of flavor. Very well done!
