Koval Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Illinois, USA
Reviewed August 6, 2021 (edited September 11, 2021)Overall, a very good bourbon. Not too sweet, no rough bite, and a unique note of smoky clove in the mix making the millet apparent. Very well done! -
The Glenrothes Bourbon Cask Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed July 16, 2021 (edited March 30, 2022)A bit of a disappointment. After the stellar vintage reserve, this tastes thinner and significantly less complex. More or less a watered down Bourbon, the only thing to recommend it is an unusual mid body hit of coconut that comes from only the mellowest of Bourbons. -
Very much a winner. I’m the kinda guy that values uniqueness over straight forward, popular quality. This delightful dram is a rondo of Mediterranean salt, desert sage, and al pastor (!) (call me crazy I swear it’s there). Every once in a while, the sweetest juniper pops in. Exactly what I want in a high level liquor. All hail the monkey king!!!

I have to say, very pleasantly surprised. Nose is baked honey on car rubber. Think white wall tyres. The palette has no Irish unmalted twang but does have a peculiar flavor I’ve found no where else. I’m going to say licorice gummy. Finish is balanced smoke. Recommended over Red Breast but still second to Powers for me. Slainte!

Appleton Estate 21 Year Limited Edition
Aged Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed April 18, 2021 (edited April 16, 2022)Absolutely excellent! On the nose, oak and roasted plum. The palette adds caramelized brown sugar and Fuji apple with a surprising stiff upper lip to finish. Well balanced, reserved, yet vastly interesting like any good gentleman should be.
