Redwood Empire Lost Monarch Whiskey
Blended American Whiskey — USA
Reviewed November 22, 2023 (edited June 15, 2024)I purchased a few weeks back with the intention of having it as my pre-thanksgiving sip.... The nose is soft and inviting, with very light notes of berries, very light. Upon the first sip I was taken aback... This is 90 proof right?.... This blended bottle (bourbon/rye) is very soft, yet spicy, and there is a sweetness about it that reminds me of drizzles of honey. Throughout my sips i could taste faint notes of apple, maybe a green apple... Not the candy type but more of a natural flavor. Yes, it's different than my essential bourbons (WT101, EC, BT, EW BiB, etc), but sometimes different is good. I definetly would like to try the other expressions from Redwood Empire. As for tonight, I'll continue to sip on... Happy Thanksgiving.35.99 USD per Bottle -
Early Times Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 11, 2023 (edited November 29, 2024)I went inside of my local store to get EW BiB, and what did I see! That's right, Early Times BiB, and since I've never had it, and could'nt argue with the price I felt it was only right to buy. The nose starts off soft and very inviting, with sweet dried fruit notes (think pineapple, and oranges) then leading to soft light wood, whiffs of grain (similar to oatmeal). On the palate I was immediately greeted with heat that fades away, making for an easy sip. I can taste the classic bourbon notes of caramel, light brown sugar, and candy corn. For this to be 100 proof, it sure does not drink like it. I enjoyed this in a Glencairn glass... Neat of course, but I'm sure a block of ice will open this up even more. All in all, it's a great buy at 25 bucks, especially with the price increases that have occured.25.15 USD per Bottle -
Michter's US*1 Sour Mash Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 23, 2023 (edited July 20, 2023)Coming in at 86 proof, this Michter's Sour Mash is a very nice sipper. Although it's not as rich Michter's other expressions this one still holds its own. On the nose it pit me in the mindset of caramel and nouget candy bar, and a sweetness similar to taking a whiff of a box of raisins or figs... The palate is enjoyable, very light, not to sweet, and certainly not harsh. There is a faint taste of honey, rye bread, and yes there is a sour or sourdough-ish taste on the finish. This was an allocated bourbon in my area, I'd buy it again, as it is a great sipper. I'd suggest drinking this one neat, because of the low proof. -
Finally getting around to this bottle, as I purchased this in early 2022... Also to note I was able to buy a 1792 Full Proof as well as 1792 Aged 12 Year. That was a good day.... Enough of that, let's get to the review. The nose is very soft and sweet, with small hints of fruit... It's very subtle. On the palate, it's light, sweet, and then there is a bit chocolate, fruits, and soft grain.... At around the proof point, I've certainly had warmer wheated bourbons, but this is good. It makes for a good sipping bourbon, I could see this at a cocktail party.... As one casually enjoyed the event mingling with friends. I'm being generous by rating this at 4 stars, the thrill of the hunt was a tad bit more enjoyable than the actual pour itself. Again, I've had other wheated bourbons that are just as tasty, if not better in my opinion.... Larceny, and Makers 46, to name a couple are easily accessible, and to me have a better flavor profile. That said... If you're a 1792 fan, buy it if you can.

Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 8, 2023 (edited January 12, 2023)Gifted to me by a dear friend after my bourbon hunt came up short. This is my third time since early 2022 having a pour, all neat. For this pour, I'm having it in a rocks glass. The nose is warm and inviting, and smells faintly sweet.... Almost to the liking of coca-cola. After allowing it to rest, then lightly swirling in the glass brings about notes a vanilla, and light pie spice(s).... Overall, this bourbon smells amazingly good. My palate enjoyed this too!!... From the first sip there is a fullness, and richness that engulfed my mouth, craving me to want more. There is some spiciness, however it is not overbearing.... Also I can taste a hint of smoke, not charred, more like a light haze. Within the richness and fullness, as I let the sip sit on my palate, surprisingly it is not heavy.... But light and buttery. As for the finish.... Well let's just say you'll enjoy the last drop. This is really good, Buffalo Trace Distillery has not let me down yet (not that I would ever expect them to), if you like Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, and Blanton's, then you will find this enjoyable as well.... It's like each expression gets better and better! -
I was gifted a 2oz sample from one of my bourbon brothers.... Typically I provide reviews after I've tasted an expression in three formats.... Neat, over a block of ice, and in an old fashioned.... Because this is a sample, and I only have one, I'm drinking this neat in a glencairn glass.... Honestly, I'm not getting much from this one.... It looks good, it has nice long legs after a swirl in the glass, it's decent on my nose, with hints of vanilla and soft wheat. On my palate, it is thin, has a little heat, but not harsh, again a soft wheat/grain presence is there just as on the nose. I hate I can't provide a better review for this.... I'm not blown away, if I were in a store that had all Weller expressions, with a 1 bottle limit... I wouldn't grab a CYPB, in my opinion. It's not bad, it's just for me. However, I would buy one for my bar as it would certainly add value and appeal.

Baker's Single Barrel Bourbon 7 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 30, 2022 (edited January 9, 2023)This is a great single barrel bourbon. With a 107 proof it does not disappoint, thus finding a home on my shelf. After trying various single barrels, I had this one at a bar during the Superbowl, I was amazed! It has the typical Beam nuttiness, hints of vanilla, and a warming rye spice. Since that evening I've purchased my own, and while it hasn't topped my favorite single barrel, Bakers 107 certainly holds its own.60.0 USD per Bottle -
Wild Turkey Master's Keep One
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 19, 2022 (edited November 21, 2022)Purchased in early December 2021... Opened and first pour (neat) on Father's Day 2022. Wild Turkey Master's Keep One, taste amazing, and was well worth the price. If I saw it on the shelf again, I would buy it. I know this review does not give the reader much to go off of, but trust me, if you see this on your local stores shelf.... Buy it.170.0 USD per Bottle -
Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C921
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 30, 2022 (edited February 16, 2022)I certainly agree with the expert's tasting notes of roasted peanuts, and dark chocolate. I drank a solid pour outside, a cold 42 degrees, while grilling dinner. Great drink, so glad I bought 2 bottles!59.95 USD per Bottle -
Roughly 7-8 years in my bourbon journey, and I'm just getting to this... That said, this is a good single barrel bourbon. Different than what my palate prefers, but still very good. Dark fruit, oak, and a touch of cinnamon on nose. The same for the palate, with a touch of heat. The finish is a bit spicy, but smooth at the same time. I'm drinking this neat, in an glencairn glass, interested to try on ice, and as a cocktail. Four Roses small batch makes an excellent honey smoked whiskey sour, I don't know if these notes would from the single barrel will do the same. All in all FRSiB is a good drink.45.99 USD per Bottle
