I really enjoy the butterscotch on the nose and some of those sweeter caramelized sugar notes but I don’t think it really follows through on the palate. I think those sweeter notes are coming from using the blue corn which I think I may prefer to the standard yellow but this whiskey maybe has not been aged long enough to clear up those more astringent notes. A strong effort but not my choice.

St. George Baller Single Malt Whisky
American Single Malt — California, USA
Reviewed November 23, 2016 (edited June 23, 2018)I really like this expression, it is so different from any single malt or american whiskey I have tasted. It is definitely interesting, fairly light and delicate and probably more similar to Japanese expressions. The floral notes really grab you on the nose, ranging from sherry to more tropical notes. -
Nose: vanilla, little bit of tobacco, buttery with some caramel, some almond Palate: dark cherry, little bit of cacao, some toasted oak Finish: doesn’t have much bite, a little bit of cinnamon General Thoughts: I even watered it down and I think i prefer the higher ABV. This stuff is good, I would definitely make this a frequent purchase if it was convenient.

This is a very light peated whiskey, the color belies its age. Honestly I am not a huge fan of this, the taste falls kind of flat for me. I was intrigued because I love scotch and irish whiskey and i was hoping they could come together nicely here, borrowing some of the Scotch traditions and blending them with the Irish. Unfortunately I don't think they were able to achieve that and what you get is the phenols drowning out the other flavors.

Kilbeggan Blended Irish Whiskey
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed November 1, 2016 (edited November 23, 2016)Not a bad but definitely not great, the acetone comes through a little strong, maybe it needs some more time in the barrel / better hearts cut.
