Dolin Génépy le Chamois
Herbal/Spice Liqueurs — France
Reviewed January 25, 2023 (edited January 28, 2024)Nose: Heavy saffron and floral notes. Like chartreuse without the anise. Palate: Quite sweet. Something, probably the saffron, stings your tongue immediately. Very pleasant. Finish: Some ginger hops out on the way down. It retains its sweetness and tingling in the back if your throat. A slight chocolate note popped out. Overall, this is an excellent liqueur. Beautiful in a cocktail, or even by itself after a large meal. Has all the best qualities of a digestif like Jagermeister or Chartruese without the anise notes that can sometimes be bracing. -
Nose: Very bog standard. Some vanilla, some sugary caramel notes. Slightly artificial. Palate: This surprised me, very light, but also quite fruity and tropical. Heavy banana and some pineapple. Finish: As this rum is very light, not much here. Leaves your mouth almost as soon as it arrives. Overall, this is a perfectly adequate rum. I purchased it on sale, and would not do so at normal price. However, it is passable for cocktails and highballs.

Nose: Heavy honey with some caramel and possibly even stone fruit. Smells like a very sweet whiskey. Palate: Barrel notes start to kick in. A heavy leather flavor arrives full force. The honey is there, but in a smaller dose. Finish: Lingers in the front of the throat. A buttery sweetness coats the tongue as it goes down. Overall, this is a very good scotch. The sweetness is pleasurable without being cloying. However, this can definitely fall in the trap of being too heavy, especially with the honey notes. A good sipping scotch, especially for the price.

Nose: The nose starts off strong. Peanuts, vanilla, and heavy oak. Little to no alcohol smell. Palate: The palate continues what the nose introduced. Some earthiness feels added too. Very little burn. Finish: This lingers for a long time, but not very specifically. I can still taste it, but no flavors are particularly jumping out. Overall, this is a good bourbon. Very earthy and natural, while also having very bog standard bourbon notes. This is definitely a good everyday sipper, if bought on sale, like I did. I probably would not buy this at full price.

Cazadores Blanco Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed October 27, 2022 (edited June 24, 2023)Nose: Earthy, grassy, but simple. Some salt, but very little Palate: Very similar. Slightly sweet and fruity, but mostly a continue of the earthy, savory smells of before. Still very light. Finish: Not much finish, the taste dies out pretty quickly. Some orange zest picks up on the tail end, but not much. Overall this is a very simple tequila. A very good representation of a highlands style, and very easy to drink. However, it is mostly suited to mixed drinks. -
Maker's Mark Cask Strength
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 31, 2022 (edited November 13, 2022)Batch 21-08: Nose: Very strong alcohol, as is expected. Sweet harvest fruits, like apple are present, as well as some mild pepper. Taste: Very sweet, less fruity than the nose. Mild peanutty taste. Very, very thick feel; it coats the inside of your mouth. Finish: Vanilla kicks in on the back end, and follows down your throat. The heaviness of the alcohol stays, however. Overall, a very good example of what cask strength can do. I do recommend, however, drinking with an ice cube to thin out the drink, the heaviness can be overwhelming. -
Nose: Very strong. Typical Rum sweetness and vanilla, with heavy alcohol. Palate: Watery at first, with little flavor catching on Finish: Heavy burn, not surprising from the heavy ethanol notes. Some vanilla comes in late to the party. Overall a very mild spirit. Not terrible, but tastes like a much younger drink, and very surprising from the makers of one of the best White Rums around.

Villa One Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed July 1, 2022 (edited February 11, 2023)Nose: Heavy vanilla and caramel, like Tuaca Palate: More sweetness, little to no agave Finish: Surprising alcohol burn to finish it off. Some grassy notes, strangely enough. Overall this is very sweet, and very unrefined tequila, and very additive heavy at that. It is unsurprising for a celebrity tequila. I did not know it was a celebrity tequila, but I purchased it on clearance, and would not pay more than I bought for it (even that was expensive) -
Nose: Very similar to regular Bombay. Heavy juniper, with some minor ethanol. Palate: Again, not much has changed. The usual pine flavors, and some citrusy tartness. Finish: This is where the gin deviates. The peppercorn leaves a spicy and savory taste that lingers after the gin is gone. Overall, this is very similar to Bombay Sapphire, one of my favorite gins, and definitely a solid choice. The lemongrass has little effect and the peppercorn only shows up on the finish. Definitely worth a try, and not a bad gin, just not very different from the original.

Nose: Vanilla, some cooked agave, and baking spices Palate: Very sweet initially. Some spice, little oak. Finish: This is where the oak kicks in. Long, and sweet, with vanilla from the cooked agave. This is a very good sipping tequila. Definitely worth the money. I'll have to try it in a cocktail as well.
