Evan Williams White Label Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 26, 2019As a whiskey drinker in his still early stages, I'd be lying if I said I didn't need to add quite a bit of water to dilute this down to a point where I was able to really experience some lovely chocolate and caramel notes on the nose. The dilution really helped me pick apart some awesome fruit notes in the taste with an almost cherry-like finish. Was afraid I wasn't gonna like this one, just needed some water! -
Corsair Triple Smoke American Single Malt
American Single Malt — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed December 23, 2019Well, ladies and gentlemen, I've found my favorite whiskey. An awesome medicinal cherry (Think Luden's cough drops) on the nose with some beautiful smoke flowing around it welcomes you to the Triple Smoke experience. Corsair has become a constant stop for me whenever I visit Nashville, exclusively because of this whiskey. Even those who stray away from smoke should try this whiskey because all that smoke is offset by these beautiful fruity notes that result in an amazingly sweet whiskey with an awesome peaty finish. I tried it with a bit of water tonight and it opened up so much more, providing more of that smoke and fruit and almost a bit of BBQ sauce. -
Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 23, 2019 (edited December 28, 2019)I mean how could you hate this? A beautiful orange and chocolate note on the nose with beautiful hints of caramel behind it. Small bits of that awesome scotch smoke sneaking out from behind those kind fruity notes. A bit of water helps add a little more bite to the flavor but all in all, a fantastic sipping whiskey. -
Devils River Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 23, 2019 (edited October 18, 2020)A very young smelling whiskey with beautiful hints of caramel and toasted cereal, almost like a Honey Nut Cheerio. A weird hint of flour also raises in the nose. That same flour-y note comes out in the taste and finish. I may be the only person who's ever ate straight flour and enjoyed it, so this may be a very personal note. It's almost like a cake batter taste. I think I might be going insane. A little water made that flour note stronger but added a bit of oak. I really don't mind it at all, but I might be the only person who enjoys the taste of raw flour. -
Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 23, 2019 (edited December 27, 2019)An absolutely awesome spicy cinnamon note on the nose with a heavy amount of oak. The first time I tried tasting this, I gave up because all I could get was that oak but with a bit of water, those more fruity and spicy notes open up quite a bit. Surprisingly less spice on the taste, more sweet fruits come through for me with a bit of spice in the background that lingers out for the finish. -
Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 23, 2019It took a few sips before I was able to really open up the nose to get the complexity that other reviewers were getting, but when I found that nose, it was fantastic! Beautiful berries and cream flavors dance across the nose with hints of that traditional caramel and vanilla that bourbons are known for. A little water opened up even more flavors, reminiscent of a bakery at your local food store. The berry flavor follows us into the taste that's just slightly too alcoholic for my palate. I was hoping for more flavor and less of that alcoholic flavor/burn, but I'm sure that's just inexperience on my part. A fine whiskey overall, otherwise -
