Yellowstone Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished with Toasted Oak Staves
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 10, 2024 (edited December 11, 2024)Day No. 10 I've always seen bottles of Yellowstone on shelves at my locals, but never pulled the trigger. After trying this pour I'm thinking of grabbing one in the future. The typical cinnamon and vanilla nose was prominent here. Perhaps a nutty essence as well. The flavor was very palatable. It started off with toffee and baking spice and changed to a leathery/spicy finish with some toasted oak. The heat was not overwhelming. Overall this was quite enjoyable. -
Day No. 9 Love me a good Irish. This was a pretty solid offering whish is saying a lot considering I've tried and owned all the Spots. A bit lighter and less complex, but quite flavorful overall. I got some stone fruit mixed with grassy/earthy tones. A hint of chocolate came and went as well. Slightly warming with a decent lasting finish.

Day No.8 I loved the idea of this whiskey being a big car guy. And it's fitting cause in the Flaviar booklet they go on about imagining yourself in a classic Shelby Gt500. What a coincidence! I'm a huge Ford guy and have owned 3 different mustangs. My current one being a Shelby GT350! I'll now digress since this is about the whiskey. Unfortunately, the sipping experience wasn't as elaborate as the car story. The dram was fairly light overall. Not much to report aside from the subtle notes of vanilla and brown sugar. At times there was a touch of butterscotch. But mostly a corn/grain character in the background. It lacked somewhat in body as well. Wish this had more depth. Still worth trying though. Far from a drain pour.

Sekk Sato Shiki Single Grain Japanese Whisky
Single Grain — Miyazaki, Japan
Reviewed December 5, 2024 (edited December 8, 2024)Day No. 5 I was excited to discover that this one was of Japanese origin. I have been on a Japanese whiskey kick recently. Even though this has been my least favorite thus far, I still found it interesting based off the different tasting experience. The aroma gave off a pungent wood/oak essence. Almost as if my nose was against a freshly made block. There was also a hint of honey. All these transferred to the taste with floral and nutty undertones. The finish was short and semi-dry. Some warmth overall. -
Chicken Cock Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed December 4, 2024 (edited December 7, 2024)Day No.4 The nose on this was familiar, in regards to plenty other spirits in this category. I got the vanilla and dusted cinnamon which is always welcomed. But a hint of dried fruit as well. When proceeding to taste it, I received a friendly note of cherry and soft oak. Sadly its presence was brief to allow the grain to emerge with a peppery finish. Subtle oak and leather came and went at times. The cherry did revisit at times, but always seemed to be passing through. This was a fun one. Let's see what day 5 brings. -
Stranahan's Blue Peak
American Single Malt — Colorado, USA
Reviewed December 3, 2024 (edited December 7, 2024)Day No.3 I wasn't aware that Colorado made whiskey! This is my first experience trying something from this location rather than the usual Kentucky and Tennessee sources. That aside, this was pretty good. The aroma netted honey and sweet fruit such as pear and banana. The pear went onto the taste along with some apple as well. The inital semi-spicy bite dwindled after the second sip. The fruit and oak melded towards the finish which hung around a bit. Not bad at all. -
Day No.2 Now this one is up my alley. The complexities from the vintage barreling gave this something to think about. The aroma starts things off with a mix of butterscotch, dried fruits, and lightly smoked wood. The flavor was all about the lovely marriage of these aromatic notes which gave birth to a spicy/sweet vanilla custard. The undertones of oak and leather rounded out the occasion and ended with a nice warm hug.

Heaven Hill Bottled In Bond 7 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 1, 2024 (edited December 3, 2024)I decided to purchase the bourbon/whiskey advent calendar from Flaviar this year to add some excitement to the holiday season. So I'll be quite active on Distiller this month lol! Day 1: To start things off, the aroma had some prominent vanilla and oak to it. Moving on to the taste was a similar experience aside from some lighter notes of caramel, cinnamon, grain, and honeyed sweetness. The onset was somewhat spicy and persisted to the finish. I wish this was smoother and less linear. Either way this wasn't a bad start. Looking forward to the days ahead.
