Evan Williams 23 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 1, 2020 (edited August 26, 2020)2018 109 Proof Nose: Oak and more oak, sweetness, vanilla and caramel ( tannins or ethanol when 1st poured and nosed)?? Palate a lot of the same oak, sweetness, vanilla and caramel Finish smooth at 1st then tannic wood, a little hot, long lasting, For the price point of a bottle nice to try but not worth it to me to spend $350 for a bottle, although 23 years Heaven Hill juice does command some respect.20.0 USD per Pour -
Old Blowhard 26 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 28, 2020 (edited June 10, 2022)Always a treat to drink older whiskies. 26 years is up there for a bourbon Nose: Oak, carmel, fruity, sweetness ...and carries through onto the palate but with less fruit, less sweet Finish kind of hot for 90 proof?? For the price of a bottle I think large companies like Diageo need to do a better job picking barrels or lower the price when a barrel is not amazing 26 years sounds nice but is not liquid gold literally & figuratively in Old Blowhards case. Definitely drinkable but not great BUT SHOULD BE GREAT/ NEEDS TO BE GREAT AT THIS PRICE POINT. Stores are "asking" $800 Other "channels" are at $600 A pour at $25 a great value BUT still not worth it Taste #2 6/16/20 Much of the same but not picking up the heat...up score to 3.7525.0 USD per Pour -
Buffalo Trace Single Oak Project Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 27, 2020 (edited May 7, 2022)#130 Very cool to try these projects & experiments from Buffalo Trace as well as other distillers. Nose is oaky, fruity, some spice, some rye... Palate tasty, rye, not thin Finish, a little hot, long, pleasant Note: Thus far all my tastes to date are at room temp and neet. No water ever added but utilized between tastes of each pour as palate cleanser. -
