I don't think this whiskey is bad, but I don't like it. The nose is sweet, and buttery, full of corn, and something like tequila. Then I get this funky hit around the back, something oniony and sour. And it's there on the palate as well. It reminds me of sour cream and onion chips, just nowhere near as strong (or disgusting). It's not as apparent if you don't add water. Yeah, not for me. Well crafted though.

Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 25, 2016 (edited May 28, 2017)Decent, but relatively uncomplocated malt. Nose is mostly peat, with some smoked fish, iodine, vanilla, something a bit floral and grassy, a smidge of baking cocoa. The palate is sweet, vanilla, toffee, walnuts, dried fruits, vegetal peat, some trailing iodine and pepper. The mouthfeel is exquisitely full and lucious. This is a good, well crafted whiskey, I just find the vanilla a bit overpowering. For me, it's like a peaty vanilla custard. I probably should have just gotten the 10 (or an Ardbeg). -
