Tastes

Strong noce, classic whiskey notes, cola. But the palate diverges into the strange. Rubber tires, cough syrup, turpentine. Warmth. This definitely feels like a quality, complex pour, but the chemical notes are too noticeable to me. 2/22/19

Fresh nose. Layered on the palate, with fruit and honey. Elegant yet flavorful. This one surprised me. 2/22/19

Small Batch, ten years, 115 proof, released 2019. Smells like Sprite. Honey initially on the palate, then, balance. Slightly floral. Lingering spice, a decently long finish. Very good. 2/22/19

Single Barrel, 11 years, 114.4 proof, released 2018. Wow, great nose. Fruit and dill. Strong pickle juice on the palate, but balanced with a plethora of notes otherwise. Complex. Towards the end, dark chocolate and sour ale/lambic notes. Smooth for the proof. Long finish. Quality. 2/22/19

Fruity, almost sour nose. Marshmallows as well. The palate is rich, peppery, with spice that lingers. Warm. Some clove honey. Orchard fruit and cacao nibs. Then, dill on the finish. Good follow-up to Batch 1. 2/22/19

Fragrant nose, rich, lots there, including chemicals, chlorine, and baklava. On the palate... this tastes like Scotch. I defy anyone to taste this blind and not think it's a barley-based whisky. Strong pepper kick, with leather treatment. Finish is long. Interesting, maybe even weird. But doesn't taste like rye. 2/22/17

Act 6, scene 4. Slightly herbal on the nose, and musty wood. The palate can be described as strange but good. Sweet apples, fall herbs, clove honey, pecan nibs. Strong pine as well. This prickles the mouth. I liked this better than Act 5, maybe not quite as good as Act. But it bodes well that this contained some of HW's own distillate. 2/22/19

The nose is fresh, clean, with spice and a hint of fingernail polish remover. On the palate, this definitely seems richer than the 2017 batch. The turpentine note carries over from the nose, but it's velvety and oily, with lots of spice, with black pepper kicking in at the end. Sweetness appears after a while. 2/22/19

Smells spicy, some young notes, nuts, wood. Good flavor, strong spice, but also smooth. Decent warmth. Baking spice, sweetness, pecan nibs, the bitterness lingers. 2/24/19

113.8 proof. Floral, sweet, with fruit and spice at the end. Slight bitterness. So much better than the 3-year version. 2/15/19
