Aberlour 12 Year Double Cask Matured
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 1, 2016 (edited August 14, 2017)Actually not too bad, I'm rating it at a price point of $40. So it's competing with glenfiddich 12 & glenlivet 12 etc. Not a whole lot of depth as its only 12yrs but the sherry matured aspect gives it a nice boldness and flavours of toffee and dried fruit Overall it's a nice entry level dram, I certainly wouldn't pay over $40 a bottle for this though, that's how much it's worth -
If you like black label then you'll enjoy this. It's very mellow, creamy, velvety and surprisingly thick for a blend. I'd say same quality as the black label but different taste. This has more "dried fruit" and more in depth compared to the black label it's got a sweet grain driven flavour but you can definitely taste some older whisky in here and it's pretty good. It honestly tasted like a really really premium red label (if red label was aged for 18yrs). Overall I paid $35 usd equivalent for this and at that price I consider it good. If it's more than $50 usd I would never buy this. Just stick with the black label, both are good just in different ways. Edit: I'm having a chivas regal 21 right now and the swing tastes more complex and has a thicker richer mouthfeel

It's good but tastes a bit "dirty" like others said it's very full and creamy. But it tastes very earthy, dirt taste. Also it's definitely not as peaty as laphroaig like distiller says. It tastes similar to port charlotte if you put a bit of dirt in it lol. Overall not bad but for the price they're charing you can do better

Glenfarclas 17 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 7, 2016 (edited August 14, 2017)Very good. Very creamy tasting. I'm not sure what type of casks this was matured in but it has a really "concentrated" dried fruits taste which is also very creamy and velvety. But also a slight hint of medicinal taste. Tastes like a really well matured ez bourbon. Overall pretty good, can't go wrong with this one. -
Glenmorangie 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 6, 2016 (edited August 14, 2017)Very good but overpriced probably paying extra money for the fancy packaging. At least they bottled it at 43% abv. It spends 3 years in sherry casks but I'd I wasn't told that I'd say this is a 100% ex bourbon matured. On the same quality as glenlivet 18 I'd say. Overall very drinkable and mostly ex bourbon notes but just a tad too expensive. -
Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 6, 2016 (edited August 14, 2017)Like others have said, it's a bit sulphur, but the sulphur plays well with adding elements to the "chocolatetynes notes" of this whisky so kudos to the master blender. I got a bottle when I was in us last summer for $45usd which I feel is very fair. For the price some are paying $80 this is a total ripoff. But for around 50 usd this is a very good product and fairly priced. Since I'm in Canada and for the other scotch fans out there try glendronach, its very similar in taste and more available. Cheers -
Benromach 10 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 2, 2016 (edited August 14, 2017)One word: quality. It's quite pricey for a 10 yr old but the casks they use are very good with also a qst fill sherry finish. There's a bit of everything, smokey, sherry, and very good honey juicy fruity bourbon notes. Very good! Would love to try the peated sometime -
Nikka Taketsuru 17 Year Pure Malt
Blended Malt — Japan
Reviewed January 28, 2016 (edited August 14, 2017)Absolutely delicious. It almost tastes like a johnnie walker black without all the grain whiskies in it then aged for 17yrs. Nose: earth, green apples, aromatic buttered toast. Palate: juicy, earthy, green apples, sherry, sour with a whisp of smoke. Finish: spicey fruity and long. This is fantastic definitely a step up from the taketsuru nas but the only downside is this costs wayyy too much -
Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Year
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed January 27, 2016 (edited August 14, 2017)Really fruity, pear, green apples, and juicy. Oak and tanniny on the finish really nice and easy to drink. With a smallest whisp of smoke on the finish (can taste the caol ila). Overall really nice fresh and juicy -
Glenlivet 15 Year French Oak Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed January 27, 2016 (edited August 14, 2017)Absolutely fantastic. Definitely a step over the 12, similar flavour profile just more deepened and more mellow. Doesn't have the alcohol burn in the 12 which is nice. Really juicy, smooth, oaky, spicey and easy to drink. Also very fair for the price, wish it was 43% though.
