Old Duff Genever

Old Duff Genever is all about showcasing the grain. Aromas of porridge, rye bread and sweet barley. There's a gentle fruitiness, on the nose as well as the palate, with hints of orange. The mouthfeel is creamy, with notes of cardamom and a whisper of aniseed. A perfect base for many classic cocktails.

Filliers 15 Year Oude Graanjenever
Distiller Score 94
With soft orange notes on the nose, as well as cocoa powder, almonds and subtle furniture polish, this is a true delight. The warming spices, which make an encore on the palate, are the cherry on top. There's licorice, honey and dried fruits too, and a hint of cough syrup, reminiscent of old style Irish pot still whiskey. This is seriously very good, and should appeal to any whisky drinker.

Old Duff Genever Single Malt
Distiller Score 92
A very rich and supremely malty spirit. This is the way un-aged spirit should be. A lovely nuttiness, accompanied, or better yet, outshined by the grains. Lightly spiced and with hints of citrus. The mouthfeel is syrupy and mouth-coating. Perfect to sip, or to mix. Add this to your home bar, if you have the opportunity.

Distiller Score 93
Surprisingly fruity, with pleasant aromas of fresh apples and oranges, balanced by chocolate and vanilla. Some varnish is a further indication of a long maturation period. The palate is gentle and superbly balanced. Sweet vanilla, oranges and licorice all play well together, before lingering spices take over. A drink to savor and sip.

Hooghoudt Aged Genever
Distiller Score 92
There's a lot of oloroso sherry goodness going on here. Just a tinge of juniper, but mostly raisins and sultanas with some spicy oak, dark chocolate and menthol. More fudge, figs, raisins and vanilla on the palate, with lingering spices and a gentle sweetness to finish things off.

Hooghoudt RAW Genever
Distiller Score 90
On the nose there's a lovely soft graininess and bright notes of lemon and orange zest, while the juniper is very subtle. It has an inherent sweetness (almost vanilla-esque) that's really enjoyable. The mouthfeel is on point, as this is super oily. It's the same elements that shine on the palate here, but with an added black pepperiness and a tinge of coriander.

Lowlander IPA Jenever
Distiller Score 87
The nose is fresh and fruity, with notes of peach and white grape juice, but there's also room for subtle hop and juniper aromas. The palate is oily and sweet, with juniper making an encore. It also has a more pronounced hoppy bitterness. Proper stuff which, and this shouldn't be a surprise, works wonderfully well as a companion to a Lowlander IPA Beer.

Fresh and fruity at first, with notes of apple and banana, as well as a hint of chocolate, before progressing into a grainier, barnyard-y territory. The palate is quite sweet, with a hit of caramel, vanilla and cinnamon. There's just a whisper a juniper berries, accompanied by charred oak and orange peel.

Boldt Genever-Style Gin
Distiller Score 95
This product shows a lovely golden color and a satisfying aroma of honey graham cracker, toasted sawdust, and a hint of crisp spruce needles and roasted exotic spices. The palate has a nice weight with more of the candied citrus and other botanicals making their influence felt. This is a very well executed Genever-style product with many classic components but a touch less juniper than its European counterparts. The combination of the local grain, craft distillation, and regional botanicals make for a very welcome addition to a relatively rare category.

Filliers 8 Year Barrel Aged Genever
Distiller Score 90
The nose showcases soft notes of grains (the rye is especially recognizable) with hints of oranges and vanilla, as well as a whisper of juniper. The texture is creamy and inviting, with subtle flavors of banana, fudge and Demerara sugar. Even though it works wonderfully well to drink it neat, this should do well in a variety of classic cocktails.

Rutte Oude 12 Graanjenever
Distiller Score 89
Inviting and warm with lots of little subtleties such as cinnamon and cardamom along with light touches of aniseed and vanilla. The palate gives us warm baking spices, particularly cinnamon. Fairly sweet also, but with a subtle peppery edge. This is good stuff, and would be interesting side step for a whiskey enthusiast. Supremely balanced.
