Crown Royal Noble Collection 16 Year Rye

Love the spicy rye

Gonna start this one off with the experience, the unboxing. The tube/box isn’t cardboard, it’s something, feels like velvet, satin purple, gold embossed lettering, nice. The Crown purple bag’s gold tassels are looped over the bottle, showing the cork top. The bottle is heavy, with cut glass diamonds around the bottom. 20/20 for the esthetics. The smell is refined, it isn’t spiky or unpleasant: mint, caraway seed, rye, fresh dill, also strawberries, and crisp pears. 18/20 The first sip is warning, tingly, and mouth coating. There is rye spice, the dill, caraway, and allspice, some fruity impressions, makes me want another taste. 27/30 Well rounded, nothing is too overwhelming, it is really sweet, and a little thin in texture, though not lacking flavor. This is definitely a rye whisky, but it is a Crown Royal whisky too, sweet and friendly. I really like it, but will need more tastes over time. 21/25 Plus 4/5 of my reserved/subjective points Total: 90/100

Expected more from a 16 yr old rye. It was light all the around on the nose, palate, and finish. Nice dark amber color showing it’s age in the charred oak barrel. More sweet vanilla on the nose than palate. The spice started strong but the intensity faded pretty quickly followed by char on the back palate. Not a lot of complexity as far as other flavor notes showing up to play. There’s a weird aftertaste left on the tongue. Not sure what it is. More flavors may show up with a few drops of water or over ice.

Nose: Spearmint, Vanilla, Maple Syrup, Cherries, Honey, Anise, Grass, Baking Spices, Lavender, Dill, Cloves, Cinnamon, Banana Laffy Taffys Palate: Vanilla, Cola, Walnuts, Maple Syrup, Bananas, Baking Spices, Cherries, Walnuts, Cinnamon, Cashews, Cloves, Caramel, Cotton Candy Finish: Vanilla, Cloves, Pepper, Baking Spices, Cola, Spearmint, Walnuts, Red Apples, Green Apples

Smells like rye. Cola notes. Spicy and smooth. Sweet. Straightforward, with more heat and spice than expected given the proof. Tasty. 1/8/21

Silky smooth with a light spicy rye finish. Oak, brown sugar and vanilla on the nose.
