Chattanooga Whiskey Co. 1816 Cask
Other Whiskey — Indiana (bottled in Tennessee), USA
Reviewed July 11, 2019Nose-Very little astringency given the high proofing. Sweet tea with lemon. Body- A bit of lemon tartness hits first, then the tannins and brown sugar of sweet tea. There are loads of pepper and backing spices. Nose- Sweetness gives way to a tartness and perhaps a hint of brine. Is this a high rye? A good, approachable cask strength. -
Isaac Bowman Straight Bourbon Finished in Port Barrels
Bourbon — Virginia, USA
Reviewed July 11, 2019 (edited August 16, 2019)Nose-sweet with pit fruit Body- it has a rich fruit mouthfeel. The pit fruit continues with a bit of vanilla and even dark chocolate. Finish- The fruitiness gives way to a dark chocolate nuttiness that reminds me of a fruit and nut bar. Note- First official drink of the John’s Betrayal trip jn Knoxville TN. This may be my favorite port finished. Would definitely like to get a bottle. -
Compass Box The Peat Monster (Classic Brown Label)
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed June 22, 2019 (edited November 19, 2019)Nose- Briny smoke with a hint of bacon. Body- Sweet lemon and honey at first taste which quickly develops to a highly brined, medicinal peat. Finish- To have such a peaty character the finish is medium and the mouthfeel is downright light. There is a lot of complexity here. This is a fun scotch. The peatiness turns a more medicinal direction though. I prefer the smoky floral meat of Lagavulin. -
