Crown Royal Deluxe
Canadian — Manitoba, Canada
Reviewed September 13, 2018 (edited December 1, 2021)Nose- Honestly, I can’t smell very much. There is a hint of sweet lemon like a light lemonade. Body- There is a little bit of that rye pickle brine here and a lot of sweetness. The 80 proof seems really light in body after what I have been drinking lately. Finish- Not really much there just bread and butter pickles. Well I don’t like bread and butter pickles. One, I have not had any Canadian whiskies that I get excited about. Two, this one sure as hell hasn’t changed my mind. -
Nose-A bit of a sour nose. Reminds me of the sour smell of lady bugs. Also some fruit notes. Ironically not unpleasant just different. Body- Has a surprisingly oaty, scotch like flavor. Sweet with raw peanuts and honeysuckle. Very floral and light for a bourbon. Finish- Sweet floral notes continue, like eating hibiscus. Some of that raw peanut sweetness is there as well. This bourbon has a very unusual flavor profile but I like it. A nice drink for the dough.

Nose- That classic Buffalo Trace dry green apple with tobacco sweetness. Body- Burnt brown sugar and a hint of green apple, less pronounced than with Rock Hill Farms but certainly there. There is also something else there, an earthy sweetness like leather. Finish- That leather sweetness gives way to cinnamon, black pepper and mostly uniquely an earthy/bitter sweetness that reminds me of walnuts. Note- Another top bourbon for me. I love that sweet dry green apple! The body and finish are much lighter than RHF and E H Taylor. I need to be in the mood for this one, but when I am, it is excellent. The earthy leather/ walnut note makes this whiskey taste old. By that I do not mean mellow, smooth, etc. I mean it tastes like it has been sitting and waiting.

Nose- Caramel, sweet tea, lemon, and wood char with a noticeable astringency. Body- Very sweet on first impression but then wood char notes come through and give way to a dry dark chocolate bitterness. The body is kind of plain, thin, and has that sour taste that I don’t care for. Finish- The finish starts off with that bitterness. The green apple note that I get so strongly in RHF and even Blanton’s comes through only at the very end and only slightly. The finish is the most interesting part of this dram by far. Note- I liked it more and more with each drink. With each sip I got more sugars and vanilla notes to balance the bitter bite on the beginning of the finish. Even with that said, I prefer it’s high rye siblings MUCH more! I do me Freeeeeeeedom and Milliardo! I do me! Double up!

Nose- Brown sugar and cinnamon. Body- The baking spices continue from the nose which continues into dark chocolate. Finish- Dark chocolate and a hint of mint finish things off with a fairly short finish. Note- This is a nice whiskey. There are some young sweet grain notes but overall the brown sugar and cinnamon balance this and make a nice dram.

Green Spot Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed August 25, 2018 (edited March 9, 2020)Nose- Sweet with hint of green apple and caramel. Body- The green apple thankfully continues with a drizzle of honey and vanilla bean. Finish- Honeysuckle and straw finish a nice drink Note- I think this is my favorite of the night. Have tried about eight Irish whiskies tonight brought by MJ. My only complaint is that it is maybe a little bit too sweet. Really nice overall though. -

Finish- Grass and honeysuckle gives way to a slight hint of wild tart blackberries. Note- This is a good one and is one of the most complex Irish Whiskies that I have had.
