Dillon's Three Oaks Rye
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed August 19, 2018 (edited February 17, 2021)Blair's notes are pretty accurate but I'm not as impressed. I get the bright mineral component, the grasses and burlap, even maybe the hint of peach/apple sweetness but it's really just young raw rye grain and a hint of oak. It's like a slightly aged High West Silver, with an appropriate ABV (vs High West's 67%). I really wanted to like it because it's local but unfortunately, like Dillon's Dry Gin, their rye comes off as the product of a young an inexperienced distillery. One that's working hard but not quite hitting the mark. $40 in Ontario.40.0 CAD per Bottle -
Tequila Tromba Añejo
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed August 8, 2018 (edited December 15, 2018)The sweetness of the blanco and reposado that I was expecting have been replaced by dry peppery spice. Not off-putting but definitely the defining feature versus the vanilla sweetness of its younger siblings. Light agave is present but not as rich or caramelized as most anejos. Not bad but nothing exciting. $70 in Ontario.70.0 CAD per BottleTaco Farm -
Dulce Vida Añejo 100 Proof Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed August 8, 2018 (edited February 22, 2021)Rich roasted agave, oak, tropical fruit sweetness, gentle pepper. Delicious profile, with just a little heat from the ABV. On par with Herradura, very silimar profile but more heat. Not available in Ontario.Taco Farm -
Casamigos Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Highlands, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed August 8, 2018 (edited January 17, 2020)The best of the Casamigos range. Sweet vanilla toffee, rich caramelized agave and light tropical fruit. It’s very smooth with just the hint of background spice (more like seasoning than actual spice). Still a little sweet to be ideal. Not my go to but still a good option. $89 in Ontario.89.0 CAD per BottleTaco Farm
