A friend of mine gave me this gin as a gift and I am so glad he did. The container is an old-style oil can with a plastic inside to protect the gin from the metal. On the nose, it has a sweet smell with juniper notes and some citrus with ethanol rounding out the scent. The body is smooth. I tried it neat and while it was not really smooth it was not unpleasant either. The citrus is more present as well as the other herbs. The finish was nice and short. This gin makes a great Gin and Tonic but only an OK Martini. The Martini is unusual as the herbs in the gin do not play well with the herbs in the Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth. Overall, I enjoyed this gin and may end up putting it into my rotation. Enjoy.25.0 USD per Bottle

So I have had this bottle for a little while but I have not tried to do a review until now. Plantation Isle of Fiji is a very good and flavorful rum and I enjoy it. The nose is light but sweet with fruity notes like hints of apple or pear. The body is smooth and full of flavor I get hints of vanilla and coconut and the body lasts a long time. The finish is long and smooth with the vanilla lingering the longest. I have only made a few drinks with this like the rum and coke. One drink I do try with rum is a Brunswick Sour which has 3 oz of rum, 1 oz of lime juice, and 1 oz of simple syurp then drizzle sweet red wine over the top. It is an excellent drink. This is a very nice easy drinking rum that has more flavor than I was expecting. Enjoy.30.0 USD per Bottle

Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 21, 2023 (edited February 19, 2024)Let me start by saying that I am not a big scotch fan but I am trying different types to see if I can find a few to keep in my bar. Monkey Shoulder is a good blended scotch from William Grant and Sons and is a solid whiskey. On the nose, it has a soft spicey scent and a bit of ethanol. I can smell a light fruit note but I can't place it. The body is light as well and has hints of vanilla and citrus. With water, it opens up nicely but the citrus does vanish. The body is kind of short with wood notes and vanilla. As far as drinks I only make whiskey highballs and this scotch is excellent in that drink. The highball is smooth and tasty and an excellent drink. Overall, I like this scotch and will try to keep it at my bar. Enjoy.30.0 USD per Bottle -
Old Overholt Straight Rye Whiskey (114 Proof)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 15, 2023 (edited July 24, 2024)I bought a bottle of this solid high-proof rye whiskey and it is a keeper. The nose is a little sharp but not unpleasant with a lot of spice like cinnamon and a bit nutty but the ethanol is there as well. The first sip is hot and dry. It evaporates almost instantly and leaves notes of oak and spicey rye with a bit of tobacco. The flavor moves very fast and the finish is long after the first sip with spice, oak, and ethanol. The finish is much better than the first sip and makes the spirit worth having. I have made the classic Old Fashioned and Manhattan and this rye holds up very well in both drinks and its higher proof lets it remain in the flavors of the cocktail. The only drink I didn't like was the Vieux Carre the whiskey did not mix well with the other ingredients and had an unpleasant bitter tone. Overall, this is a very good high-proof rye and in my area, it's $10 a bottle and at that price, it is a steal. Enjoy.10.0 USD per Bottle -
This is a very nice smooth vodka. While I am not a big fan of vodka in general I do have several different vodkas in my bar and use them as a mixer rather than a straight sipper. This might be the exception to that rule. On the nose, there is mostly nothing a little bit of ethanol but not much else. The taste is light and smooth with a little bit of sweetness that fades quickly. The finish is light and fresh with no bad aftertaste. I do not really have a drink to test vodka like I do for other spirits but I have made several different drinks and it works with all of them. This is a solid addition to your bar and a nice surprise for drinkers. Enjoy.25.0 USD per Bottle

I bought this a while back and tried it off and on for the last few months. I paid between $30 and 35 so that is usually where I shop. It has a lot going for it and I like that. It has a rugged almost unrefined taste but that is because it wants to taste like that. On the nose, I get ethanol and vanilla but if you wait a little you can get some spice as well. The front is a bit rough but it is not unpleasant and I get vanilla, spice, and oak. All of these work well together and the ethanol goes away quickly. The finish is kind of quick but it is pleasant with woody notes and vanilla. It does make a very good Old Fashion and it holds up well in the drink. In Manhattan, it is also very good with the flavors working well. Overall, this is a nice bourbon that reminds me of regular Bulleit Bourbon but that is not a bad thing. Enjoy.35.0 USD per Bottle

Gran Centenario Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed October 4, 2023 (edited November 16, 2023)I bought this after a recommendation from a gentleman I was working with. He is into Tequila like I am into Bourbon. I will say for my part that tequila is the least experienced spirit out there for me. I have tried many different whiskeys, rums, gins, and vodkas but, only a few tequilas. I really like this tequila. It has a soft nose and it is a little sweet as well maybe light brown sugar or a very light taffy unflavored but sweet. The taste is where it opened my eyes. It is light, sweet, and mellow with a little earthiness to help round it out. This flavor lasts for a long time and slowly fades with the sweetness and earthiness lingering the longest. I like it. I have made one or two drinks with this and the regular Margarita is out stranding but I prefer to sip this. Lastly, I really like the bottle as well. This is a tequila I will keep at my bar from now on.35.0 USD per Bottle -
Benchmark Full Proof Bourbon (125 Proof)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 2, 2023 (edited April 6, 2024)I just finished my first bottle and was delighted with the bourbon inside. The bourbon is from the Buffalo Trace distillery and is a very good low-cost high-proof bourbon. I bought this about two months ago and have sipped it and made several drinks from it. It is too hot for me to sip but with ice or water, it is better. On the nose, it is oaky and sweet with hints of vanilla and spice. It coats the glass nicely but is kind of thin. The first thing I taste is vanilla and then ethanol. The body was not as full as I thought it should be but it was not bad. The finish was nice and woody with notes of vanilla and caramel. Where this bourbon really shines is in drinks like the Old Fashion and Manhattans. The drinks are very strong so have your big boy drinking pants on. The flavor is great as the bourbon holds its own in both of these drinks. Overall, this is a solid high-proof bourbon and is well worth trying. I do want to try all of the different bourbons in this line.25.0 USD per Bottle -
I am so happy I found this gin at my local store as the bottle is beautifully designed. When I bought it, I was afraid that the gin inside would be average at best, however, it has an amazing mix of citrus and spices that make this a special gin. According to the website the Mermaid gin has Juniper, Elderflower, Rock Samphire, and Grains of Paradise. The last two ingredients I had never heard of, but they make this gin very flavorful and easy to drink. The gin is 84 proof and has very little burn sipped neat and it mixes well with tonic water and fruit juices. The Martini is where this gin shines, but you must be careful about the vermouth that you use. I really like Dolin, but it does not work very well with this the Martini was too peppery. I used Cocchi Americano, and it was amazing and full of flavor. As a side note, I will get a new bottle of Dolin to see if that was the issue. I enjoyed trying this gin now that the warm weather is here, and I am looking forward to trying the different spirits the distillery produces. Enjoy.33.0 USD per Bottle

J.P. Wiser's Old Fashioned Whisky Cocktail
Ready to Drink — Canada
Reviewed January 6, 2023 (edited January 21, 2023)I bought this on a whim over the holidays to see if it was worth the money. My verdict is a little above average. If you like big bold bourbon or rye spirits in your Old Fashion, this is not your drink. If you are new to cocktails or want something lite and easy, this is your drink. The whisky is 80-proof Canadian with the rest added to it so it is not too strong and very easily sipped and enjoyed but there is not a lot of flavor compared to the Old Fashion's that I make. Overall, it is a nice intro to Old Fashion cocktail and it is not expensive so if you do not like it then very little is lost. Enjoy.12.0 USD per Bottle
