El Tequileño Reposado Gran Reserva Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed February 20, 2021 (edited June 24, 2023)Neat. Nose is moderate intensity and delicious with caramel, butterscotch, oak, agave, some light fruit such as pear, and hints of baking spice, vanilla, and green herbs. Taste starts with agave, honey, pear, oak, vanilla. Then develops with some barrel char, pepper, anise, slight spearmint, and green herbs. Finish is dry and not particularly sweet with some slight oak tannins, vanilla, and anise. Overall, it's very good. Smooth with well balanced and pretty flavors. There is some complexity here, but can be easily overlooked as the flavors can be mild. Additive free and the natural flavors support this and is appreciated. Best enjoyed neat, slowly sipped in a quiet room. Use as a mixer would be a waste as the flavors would be overwhelmed.. Value is tricky. I have a few favorite repos that are 1/3 less..but then I see that bottle of Clase Azul for double this and it is far inferior to this bottle, while keeping a similar flavor profile (without the obvious additives)59.0 USD per Bottle -
Knob Creek 9 Year Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed February 4, 2021 (edited February 25, 2021)Neat. Visually, a beautiful mahogany. Nose is rich and pleasant. Caramel, oak, vanilla, leather, toffee, some rye spice and stone fruit as it opens up. Flavor starts toffee sweet, and an immediate punch of cinnamon and oak. Cherry, pepper, vanilla. Finish is dry with charred oak, light sweetness, and rye spice Not a 'pretty' bourbon, but I really like the charred oak bite and spice. Bonus for value. It deserves a permanent space on the shelf27.0 USD per Bottle -
Tequila Arette Reposado
Tequila Reposado — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed January 8, 2021 (edited November 15, 2024)Neat. Nose of sweet fruity cooked agave, slight oak, honey and vanilla. Also some tropical fruit such as a grilled pineapple and earth. Taste is agave sweet, herbal (anise), tropical fruits, floral, black pepper, vanilla, and minerals. Finish is floral and sweet balanced with some spice and oak tannins. Very delicious and unique. The wood notes are subtle and complimentary, letting the blanco flavors come through. One of the best in this price range and better than many more expensive bottles30.0 USD per Bottle -
Tequila Arette Blanco
Tequila Blanco — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed January 8, 2021 (edited April 30, 2022)Neat. Nose is great with lots of cooked agave, minerals/earth, vegetal with grass and herbs, and a little floral and citrus. Taste starts with rich and fruity agave, peppercorns, floral vanilla, balanced with some soft minerals, brine, and a hint of butter. Finish is sweet and herbal Delicious and unique. A good value even with my inflated 1L/local gas station markup30.0 USD per Bottle -
Neat. Brassy in color. Nose is cream soda like.. sweet and vanilla, a touch of oak. Taste is sweet, but less so than Clase Azul. Cream soda and a touch of oak, cinnamon and black pepper. Finish is just sucralose and artificial oak, some caramel. You know you bought this for the bottle. The juice inside is dominated by additives. It doesn't taste bad in the way that processed candy tastes good. I'm sure it's tasty for non tequila drinkers. Think 80 proof cream soda schnapps. Not for connoisseurs.80.0 USD per Bottle

Siete Leguas Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed December 5, 2020 (edited September 3, 2022)Neat. Light straw in color and long legs. Aroma is bright with some ethanol. Agave fruitiness dominant, with citrus, herbal, vegetal, oak and minerals. Notes of butterscotch, nuts, vanilla, and honey are in the background to explore rather than having them so up front. Flavor is more bright agave fruit with anise, mint, brine, oak, vanilla, warm cinnamon and allspice, light caramel/butterscotch and nuts. Finish is a little oily, sweet, cinnamon, light oak tannins Maybe a little toward the younger of anejos, but I really like the way it's still agave forward with the wood aging notes playing harmony instead of dominating. Lots of flavors here to find. Definitely reward to relax and sip with. Very good value considering the quality50.0 USD per Bottle -
Neat, older NOM 1143/'swoosh' bottle. Nose is agave, earth/minerals, citrus, vegetal, black pepper. Taste is sweet and pleasant with agave, green herbs (including a hint mint), minerals, black pepper, orange peel, sucralose. Mouthfeel is moderate. Pretty smooth even for a freshly opened bottle Finish is sucralose, brine, pepper. I wouldn't call this a connoisseur's tequila, but it is very drinkable and a step above many sub $20 tequilas. I would be interested in tasting the new blanco from a different contract distillery as I did like the anejo from NOM 160325.0 USD per Bottle

Old Forester 1910 Old Fine Whisky
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 30, 2020 (edited May 24, 2021)Neat. Mahogany brown with long legs. Aroma is charred oak, dark caramel, roasted tree nuts, fruitcake. Taste is true to nose with dark caramel/molasses sweetness, charred oak, dried fruits, vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate. Finish is heavy with charred oak tannins, dark chocolate, hot cinnamon, maple syrup Rich, oaky, smokey, sweet, and spicy. I can see this one being a love/hate. Not sure if I can do more than 1 glass, but it does make a nice sipper for a cold evening.56.0 USD per Bottle -
Dulce Vida Reposado 100 Proof Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed November 28, 2020Neat. Straw color with long legs. Nose is clean and pleasant with some expected heat, agave, hints of oak, wood spices, herbs, earth, light caramel and vanilla. Taste starts with agave and is quickly dominated by heavy hot cinnamon. After that initial kick, it fades back a bit, light caramel, vanilla, mint, anise, other baking spices make an appearance. Finish is long and dry with sweet and hot cinnamon and herbal bitterness A unique bottle in my collection as it is a high proof reposado. This has more whisky and bourbon heat and spice than other tequilas. This would be a great crossover bottle45.0 USD per Bottle
